Diet Advice
Hey all,
Well, I went to Dr. Voellinger on Tuesday for my initial consult. It was nice meeting a few people who had wls and it was great inspiration. That kind of changed after finally meeting with Dr. V. You see, my BMI is too great for laparoscopic surgery and he wants me to lose 50 pounds in 3 months
I was discouraged because it seems no matter what or where I am, I am just too fat (another reason I need the surgery). I'm too fat for the fat clothes in the fat people store, I'm too fat for some of the fat seats, and now I'm too fat for fat surgery. It just figures.
So he gave me 3 options: 1. have open surgery (I don't think so). 2. do half the DS surgery, wait and do the other half later (don't think insurance will go for it). 3. lose the weight (best idea, my choice).
So I drove the 7 hours back thinking of how I can lose 50 pounds in 3 months. So today I started slim fast. I am sooo hungry. I don't know if I'll be able to do this for 3 months. Steffney at Dr. V's office mentions Adkins. Do any of you know the jist of adkins, cause I don't have the book and don't have the money for the book.
Any advice will be sooooo much appreciated.
Thanks,
Myranda
Do a Google search online for it. You might be able to find a PDF of it and be able to print it. And if you don't have a printer at home, you can print it at your local library. Or go better yet. Do just that, go to your local library and try to find the book. There are so many diets out there. So many people on here and on messageboards showing you ideas of "what did you eat today" ideas.....
Thats a way to start.... For instance... Heres what I ate today...
This morning for
breakfast... One cup of hot green tea, cream and splenda & cottage cheese
Snack
String Cheese
Lunch
Apple & A pack of Jack Links Peppered Beef Jerky
And for snack I will have
Cottage Cheese & more hot green tea
Dinner
Chicken breast & sliced tomato & sliced squash.
And right before I go to bed, I will probably snack on a popcycle.
Thats how I get my yummy food for thought Ideas.... good luck on your diet!!

Depending on your tastes - personally I like South Beach better than Atkins. Both have the same idea - low carb but South Beach is low carb, low fat and allows more fruits n veggies and whole grains
You should check out half.com for the books - you can get them used for under $5 usually - or the library
You might want to look around a bit more. My Dr. has done laparoscopic on poeple up to or even beyond 500lbs. He makes everyone agree that is the lap isnt doable that it is ok to switch, but very few are ever switched. We have to do the liver shrinking diet and exercise before the surgery. I weigh 453 and my Dr. understands it is not easy to loose weight and keep it off. I do not like Adkins. Adkins cuts out all carbs and can lead to ketoacitosis.
My nutritionist has given me a simple diet to go by (at my request) - 2 servings of milk, 2 servings of fruit, 2 servings of Whole Grain or starchy veg, about 60 grams of protein of my choice, and all the non- starchy veggies I want. Also a serving of healthy fat (canola oit mixed w/butter, olive oil, etc) I spread out the food so I am eating all day long. I will have a diet shake for breakfast (milk and protien) fruit for a snack sandwhich on whole wheat bread with a veggie, and then a good dinnerwith my family meat and veggies. I do have a grumbly tummy by bedtime, but I just drink lots and lots of water and I do an exercise video (very easy one) then too. I dont feel deprived durring the day. I have traded my whole grain for a sf chocolate bar a time or two. And dont forget to take good multi vitamins .. they will help with cravings because alot of cravings are caused from needing a vitamin or mineral.
I am a foodaholic and I have found some good resources at a website for changing your life. It is a program, but I have read the info and found it helpful. I hope you the best and good luck!
Here is the website I was talking about...
