having a pain
Has anyone experienced this:
A sharp pain under my left breast above the and about two inches from the big porthole. I'm not sure what that incision is actually called. But I get it when I stand up or lean forward. I am 3 weeks out from surgery today and am not sure why this would be hurting now. My staples came out a week ago and appear to be healing very nicely. It just started in the last 24 hours and made it really hard to get enough protein and fluids in. I came up a little shy but probably within an acceptable range. Having no problem with my bowels or bladder.
Thanks

Maureen, I walked around for 6 weeks after my surgery in so much pain in that area I didn't know if I would ever be right again. From what I have heard, some people have it right away, others get it after surgery. Mine was coming from the muscle in the left side. Thats where the biggest incision is made and the muscle has been pulled and stretched during surgery. YOU STILL need to call Dr. Cook and make sure he doesn't want to see you. I would bet that they will tell you what I did. If thats what it is, it will get better. Its one of those things that will take a few weeks.
Let us know, what you find out. Angie
I also had this pain on my left side. I mentioned to my doc and he said it was actually an internal sticth doing its job. There is a part of the stomach around that area that is prone to developing a hernia, so most surgeons place a stitch in the area. My doc told me that it was the stitch holding everything in place and the body trying to heal against it! Thankfully, it only lasted about a week. Good luck!

Hey Maureen!
I don't remember having this problem myself, however, Michael, my hubby did. He was in intense pain and was admitted into the hospital...he also had overdone it exercising and become dehydrated. They ran all sorts of tests on him but not seem to know where the pain was coming from. Later, Michael read a post from someone else explaining that this is where they make the largest incision and cut throught the muscle area and it is not an uncommon thing. I think Dr. Bauman was being very cautious with Michael since he got so sick, and dehydrated he fainted two times, once at the doctor's office trying to get out of the car and then in the ER! Also, Michael only has one kidney, so I know they were scared for him...but all is well now and the pain is gone. His SD was 2/13!
I pray your pain goes away soon...if not, I would call and talk to the nurse or doctor himself and see what they suggest or want you to do. Don't let it go too long.
Blessings your way!
Nancy
