Post op question
I counted mine as the first day i was able to start liquids, i had surgery on friday then saturday i did the crystal lite, then sunday i was able to do the broth, popsicles, jello and crystal lite so i counted this my first day. Tomorrow i get to move up the full liquids. But i did go ahead a try a protein shake tonite with carnation instant breakfast and it was good. So tomorrow I start my next stage.
Take care.

I think that's a question for your doctor...they all seem to have their own schedule...mine recommends the liquid diet of protein drinks for the first two weeks after surgery, but doesn't specify a starting day...I assume it is the day after the surgery when I was given CIB in the hospital. I just can't drink another glass of CIB or a protein shake so I've experimented with soft foods that are high in protein like plain nonfat yogurt, cottage cheese, and baby foods and I'm finding some things are more tolerable than others. I'm eating very small amounts and eating very slowly. My goal is to get in at least 60 grams of proten...I'm finding that I'm eating between 500 and 600 calories and am able to manage right at 60 grams and I'm 5 days post-op...I'm a little bit confused because I've read it is important not to stretch the pouch or the stoma and to make sure to get in the protein...if you can't tolerate the drinks, and have to get in the protein, it would seem necessary to try soft foods, but is that risking stretching the pouch?
