Hi Everyone, I'm 4 days post-op and on the liquids for a few more days, but honestly I HATE the sweetness of the CIB and the choc. and vanilla flavored protein shakes...I went out yesterday and tried to find an unflavored protein supplement that I could substitute for some of the flavored and cut down the sweet, but I find the taste just as bad...it sort of leaves an aftertaste. I tried Campbells tomato soup, but before I realized it has high fructose corn syrup...I also tried mixing the unflavored protein powder with plain yogurt and it tasted like paste. I generally like unflavored plain yogurt so that is still an option and I bought some no fat cottage cheese. I've been forcing myself to drink one high, high protein drink a day and the CIB, but I just don't know how much longer I can do it without gagging. Help please, I'm very confused about how I can get in the 60-70 grams of protein without these drinks while I'm still on liquids. I have been pleased that I can drink more than I thought at a time and quicker than I thought I would be able to. Should I try a soft-poached egg this early? Any other help will be greatly appreciated. Jamey

Jamey, Please be careful with eggs. They are hard on the pouch sometimes. Test it out first. Trust me, I'm almost 7 weeks post op and I got so sick off them this morning.. I eat alot of yogurt, Walmart and Foodl Lion carries Blue Bunny, and it has 9g protein, 80 cal. Its really good too. I eat cheese, cottate cheese with some fruit, and I eat the South Beach protein bars, they have 10 g protein, 140 cal. I also just got some chicken salad from Sam's Club and it worked well too. I usually can't handle chicken, but the chicken salad did great with me. I'm also guilty of eating those Snackables for kids, they have the ham/cheese or turkey/chees with crackers. For some reason those work well for me. I can only eat about 1/2 half pkg. at a time. So I guess that's good, it makes 2 meals for me.... I hope this helps, take care... Sandi

hi jamey, i am almost 2 weeks out and i am having a hard time getting protein in too. i bout some isopure ready to drink protein juices. they are sold in gnc near the isopure powder mix but they are like 3.75 a bottle. they are 20 oz bottle that are carb free and 40 grams of protein for the whole bottle. i am drinking the grape flavor now and they are made to sip because they are tart. escpecially the melon. its like a triple flavor of a jolly rancher. not too sweet but tart. i like them. the look of the bottle reminds me of a sobe drink. i also found that my tummy likes carb countdown milk by hood. i couldnt find it at foodlion but walmart has it. it has 3 gms of sugar and 8 grams of protein. i usually have a 6 oz glass and i sip it for 45 min. so im not getting all the sugar. my doctor says its normal for me not to feel full and to be able to drink and drink and it not to hurt cause it goes down into my pouch and out my pouch real quick. hope that can work for you too. adrienne

For two weeks, I was awful! I COULD NOT handle the protein shakes/powder of any kind. My surgeon told me not to stress, it was only for 2 weeks. So...I drank Crystal Ligh****er, watered down OJ, and ate Edy's Sugar Free popsicles. That was it! When I moved to purees, I was able to start getting the much need protein. Good luck! Jamey, I tried the Campbells Select or Premium new soup in the Butternut Squash flavor. I mixed about 1/4 carton with a scoop of Anywhey protein from GNC and a big spoonful of plain yogurt. I like the tast very much and it goes down smoothly and provides more than 20g of protein. Hope you try it and enjoy it as much as I have. Hope you continue to feel better each day. I'm out about 17 days and beginning to feel almost normal. Still sore on my left side and taking my foods very slowly. I was too eager to get ahead and could not tolerate many foods so I have gone almost back to soft and full liquids and feeling much better. Many blessings, Maureen

Now granted today was my first day mixing, but I made shakes using High protein choco Boost and the Pro Blend 55 Whey protein with a little ice and blended it up and I thought is was yummy. What is CIB?

Hey Jamey Believe me I remember those days. At first I thougth I would never eat again, nothing and I do mean nothing tasted good to me and the amount I could get in was far from the protein total we need. I had my surgery Aug 23 and now 7 months later things are better, I can eat just about anything, just not much. I still aways try to make wise decisions and yes I even enjoy a protein drink for breakfast every morning, just a good way to start the day off with a good dose of protein. I still do not like alot of the things I did prior to surgery, eggs, potatoes, nothing like before, bread very little. I am trying to get in a little more variety but when you only have so much room, you learn to make the wiser choices. I thank GOD for this tool every day, I am down 85.3 lbs and am the healthiest I have been in my life! Hang in there, it does get better, each and every passing day. Best wishes to you, just keep trying you will be amazed that you will get in a little more protein each and every day. Blessings your way, Clytie

Thanks everyone...I appreciate you taking the time to help me out...I am making a list from this and going to try some different things...I did a couple of things differently yesterday...I tried no fat cottage cheese in the tiny little containers and that went down very well. It has 11 grams of protein...I also went to the store and accidentally started looking at baby food...I bought some chicken, turkey, and beef starters and some peas and butternut squa****ried the turkey and the peas yesterday and was surprised at how good it was...probably couldn't have eaten it before surgery, but now it is great and the serving was two ounces...perfect..and the turkey had 8 grams of protein. This morning I mixed 1/2 scoop of my vanilla protein powder into 6 ounces of plain yogurt and it is tolerable...still a little pasty but I can stomach a little bit of it...been working on it for 45 minutes now and I'm not even half way through it Thanks for the suggestions again...i'm going to make another run to the store and take a look at the soups and the GNC to see if I can find the protein drinks that Adrienne suggested...maybe the tart will be better than the sweet.
