I am kisha and I have medicare and medicaid for my secondary insurance and I was denied surgery because @ the university of north carolina is not considered a "school of excellence" facility. That really sucks because I have almost completed my enitre post-op appointments and now i have to find another facility in nc that medicare will approve.

Kisha, Seems like I've heard this issue with some others and I'm not sure there are any "school of excellence" facilities in NC. I might be wrong, but I know someone who had surgery scheduled and a few days before, they jerked her approval. The Presby hospital here in Charlotte was applying for this status. Good luck!

Takisha, this Medicaid crap has apparently pushed a lot of surgeons to no longer work with Mediciad. I mailed 15 surgeons about this and so far only three of them I think are still working with Mediciad. The closest to you is Dr Classen in Fayetteville. His email is [email protected] There may be others but at this time I only know of three.

I had my surgery at UNC-Chapel Hill on 12-8-05. I am covered my Medicare and Medicaid. My surgeon was Tim Farrell. I had no problems getting approved. I am not familiar enough to know why I had no problems, did they just start the "school of excellence" requirement?

Hi Takisha, I have medicare and medicaid and had my surgery June 1, 2005 at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. France who is in with Dr. Farrell did my surgery and my insurance paid. Wish you luck. Kathy

hi, Dr. Bauman does not except medicare or medicaid. I called his office the other day and the nurse told me I would be considered a self pay patient because of my insurance. Thanks for the response. Takisha
