self pay cost of surgery
I was told somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000. My insurance will not pay so I went thru Vocational Rehab for assistance. They take your income and figure out how much you will be responsible to pay. You may want to check into that before trying to finance the surgery completely. I am just in the beginning stages of this, but the personnel at vocational rehab are very frinedly and helpful.
Kelli,
I can answer this question for you, as I was a self pay in Charlotte on March 14th , 2006.
I used Dr Melkonian who cost me $8,400 and my hospital bill at Presby was $16,000, there were a few other dollars here and there like the nutritionst. The hospital gave me a 25 percent discount because I was self pay. Most insurance companys are charged more then self pays , I learn on this journey.
I have told folks on here before, this surgery is like buying a new car, why cant we , finance our health. I did the lap-rny and I have no regrets with having the surgery , it was worth every penny I spent. Besides you will save a mint on your food bill
I wish you all the best of luck , I am so happy with my choice , I have lost 83 pounds since I started my journey and I feel GREAT .

Hi Kelli,
I am self-pay too and my cost was going to be around $25,000 give or take a few dollars! I am also going through Vocational Rehab and my surgeon doesn't accpet that as payment but the hospital does. They are going to help me by paying the hospital bill and I will be paying the surgeon's fee which at my hospital in Hickory, is $5000. VR has been very helpful! They are changing some things for their next fiscal year so if you want to look into it then go now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The year for them starts back July 1st. I am getting in just under the wire. Hope this helps!!
