Welcome!
unfortunately this isn't a very active forum. I'm still on the wait list for surgery in Bathurst. I'd love to know what the timeline is once your done all your appts.
Its great to hear how other people do before and after surgery. Good luck with your surgery, keep us posted!
Ohhh so happy for you
I get my sleeve in 6 day 7 sleeps( but who is counting)
what a great place that we can see all the success people have had
congrats, you are doing great!
Hi everyone! :)
So I am just shy of being 8 months post op now. I was sleeved by Dr. Boisvert on May 9th, 2016. I'm going in to see him on January 23rd for my final post op check, and I hope that he is pleased with my progress so far. I sure am!
I have lost a total of 101 lbs so far! I started out wearing a 3-4X shirt and a very tight size 28 pant. I am now wearing a size 22 pant, and will transition soon to a size 20. For shirts I am all over the place. I wear a X from Penningtons, an XL at Reitmans, and a L from Northern Reflections. I am super excited to have more shopping options now, I am no longer confined to just shopping at Penningtons. I have choices! I started my journey at quite a high weight, so I still have about another 75 lbs to lose. I have all the confidence in the world that I will get there, and I will get there before the end of 2017. So if anyone is starting out with a lot to lose like I do (did) and are wondering if the sleeve will work for you, the answer is yes. But only if you MAKE it work for you. You still have to make good choices and be conscious about what is going in your body.
That being said, my sleeve has tolerated just about everything that I have put in it. After I transitioned to all foods after surgery I tried to finish the Boost shakes that I had purchased for my liquid diet. That is the only thing that my sleeve was unhappy with, and I'm not sure why as I was able to drink it just fine on my liquid diets? Anyway, doesn't matter :) I'm still using LoseIt to track all my foods, my calories and protein for the day. It's just become a habit and something that I hope to keep up with for the rest of my life. It was a bit difficult over the holidays with parties and treats everywhere. I'll be the first to admit that I ate some things that I shouldn't have, but I've also picked myself back up and gotten back on the wagon. One thing that the holidays taught me is that the foods I ate before really honestly make you feel like garbage. I felt bloated and lethargic, and honestly a bit sad. But the holidays are over, the excess treats are out of my house, and it's a brand new year. I was lucky over the holidays and didn't gain any weight. But I didn't lose any either.
This year will be exciting. I'm starting a new job here in a few weeks, and this summer I will be traveling to Glasgow, Scotland, with my pipe band to compete in the World Bagpipe championships. I flew a few times back in 2014 and each time needed to ask the crew for a seat belt extender. Not this year! I'm excited to see how I will fit on the plane this summer.
So this is where I am! I still have a long way to go and will continue to check in with progress, and to see how everyone else is doing.
Happy New Year!
Welcome!!!
We will be very close
I will be sleeved Jan 12th
Ant let me tell you I have had my days, worried, happy, crying, I have been through every emotion!
I think this absolutely normal!! It's a grieving process...we are losing our best friend FOOD!!!
you can do this, and you will be able to eat again, but u will have to use moderation and know that you are eating for substanice, NOT for pleasure anymore
I can't wait to hear how things go
feel free to send me a message anytime...I am usually quick to answer on here
on 1/2/17 8:58 pm
I'm still on a wait list so gave only experienced impatience so far. I'm sure the nurse will confirm you're not alone in your feeling.
When were you referred? First appt??
good luck to you. I don't find this forum to be very active but I think a lot of people read posts and don't comment. Thank you for sharing your thoughts ... look fwd to hearing more.
Hi everyone!
I'm new to this forum/community.
I'm from Moncton NB, 40 years old, married, mother of a 6 year old son, and having the sleeve done in 8 days: on January 10th.
I had a total meltdown yesterday and the day prior; i cried for almost 2 days straight and decided i might need to rebook my surgery. But guess what? I woke up today with a completely different mindset ... i'm back on the bandwagon for the 10th. Have any of you experienced that kind of panic right before surgery? I have an appointment tomorrow with the bariatric nurse at the Georges Dumont hospital (i'm just finishing up my 1st week of shakes ... they are gross by the way), so i plan on talking to her about it. The surgery itself is not what i freaked out about, it's my life after surgery that worries me.
Plus, on top of that, i have a yeast infection. I hope the nurse will say i'm allowed to take Diflucan and that it won't affect my surgery date. I'll find out tomorrow i guess!
Anyways, happy to have found this group, comments or questions are welcome :)

How are you making out with liquids over the holiday season? You are so close. I do my preop at the DECH on wednesday. getting a little nervous
Hello friends
I am struggling with what I am about to go through... I had the lapband surgery back in 2008 in Bathurst and It wasn't successful.
I lost about 50 ish pounds which is great but had another surgery on my port since the "pick line" was leaking. After that, I remained pretty constant weight wise. I started walking and lost another 40 ish pounds which was great but had an injury so I couldn't do it anymore. I had a hard time with my lapband and with the combinaison of both, I chose to get the remaining saline removed.
A year went by and I am back at around 253. I recently had two surgeries (gallblader removed and stones and appendicities) and the doctor believes that it would be better to remove my lapband and get the gastric bypass surgery instead. I agree but I am struggling when people ask (and not many people know I'm doing this), well... why do you think that this one will work? It makes me question the process, and that I feel like a failure. Do I go through it again or am I destined to be the size I've been most of my life.
The lapband is out for sure but I'm still struggling about the RNY. Anybody with some insights? Are you happy with your decision? Would you tell me not to do it? I'm still waiting for my call for the full day event and the surgery date so I know I will know more and can ask questions but I'm curious what you would say.
:)
Thank you so much.
I signed my consent forms on Wednesday, December 21! I love Dr. Theriault. She is so nice. Good luck!
