Every time I got a time frame from dr b and asked his nurse, she told me that he is always optimistic. You don't even go on the list for the surgery until psych clears you. And they make you keep coming bac****il they're satisfied you are ready for it. I felt mentally ready and even though they agreed, I had to keep a food diary for two weeks and go back to them to look at it. I don't eat a lot of veggies, but eat fruit.
Wow that is a long time - I know of a few people that did it several years back and only had to wait about 6 months from the time of the first meeting to the surgery...I have been waiting a long time too...quite discouraging to find out I still have a ways to go. The nurse told me around 3-4 months before the all day session and Dr. B told me about 6 months wait for the surgery (after the all day session).

I'm waiting for the surgery with dr b. I had my first consult on Mar 30, 2013. My all day info session was August of that year. Then I had three psyche appts in November December and end January. I signed my preop papers around February or mar. I can't remember exactly. I called the hospital at the end of May and they said they were all booked up until at least September so I have to wait at least that long. I think there are still people ahead of me. So all in all it's been a long, long journey. But time does march on and my time will come. My referral was in oct 2008, so this October will be six years. :(
Thank you very much - I am glad to hear you are doing well! I have my consultation on July 8, got the call a little over a week ago. I'm glad to hear that they do the sleeve gastrectomy there, because from what I've read that seems to be the one I would be most comfortable with! How long was it between your first consultation and your surgery?
Hey Colleen, I had my surgery in Bathurst on April 7th and I found they are TERRIFIC!! when you go for your appointment with the doctor he will discuss what type of surgery he thinks is best but initially it is up to you what surgery you want, you will have a choice between the gastric bypass, Sleeve, or the lap band surgery.. I initially was going to get the lap band surgery, but I opted for the sleeve and I am SO GLAD I did Im out 9 weeks I lost 20 pounds my first 3 weeks after surgery, and then I had a stall for about 2-3 weeks and didnt lose a thing which is common so if it happens dont worry lol and then since then Ive lost another 21 lbs , I average about 3-4 lbs a week.. It really is a life changing event and I wouldnt change anything, 41 lbs down in 2 months, I dont think ive ever lost that much weight with in at least the last 10-15 years, let alone with in 2 months I wish you much luck and success in your journey, listen to your doctor, nurses and dietician, they are terrific and so so nice.. keep up posted :D
How long did you have to wait from your first appointment to your surgery date?
Things will happen fast .You will get the call before you know it hang in there it's worth the wait.
Congrats to you... Amazing isn't it?! If I could have a wi**** would be that all these people waiting for surgery didn't have to wait so long.. They will have their turn and feel what we are.. all the best and continued success!!
rykat... I cant wait until its your turn!!! You have waited long enough and I know you are going to do amazing!!! I will be waiting to hear for your surgery date and cheering you on!!
