My sister had her initial visit with Dr. Beausoleil in April and just when for the all day clinic about two weeks ago so it was around the six months. It's definitely a waiting game but the end results will be more than worth the wait!
Can anyone tell me if there is a resource I can access that lists bariatric surgeons and their locations in the Atlantic provinces?
Hi, My surgery was Thursday, Oct 23 and I was released from the hospital on Saturday, Oct 25. Technically I would probably have stayed until Sunday, but due to lack of beds, I was in the ICU unit and i convinced them i was probably better off at home than in there and they agreed. Dr. Boisvert was great. He stopped by Thursday evening to check on me and let me know everything went as planned and looked great. I have read some stories on here of people not being able to get the pain meds they need, but that wasn't my experience at all. When I first woke up, I was in pain for a few minutes but as soon as they said does it hurt and I said yes, they gave me meds for that and nausea and that cycle continued until I left the hospital. I am not saying there hasn't been any pain, but its been very manageable. I have also seen stories about people being sick and that I haven't had that issue either. All in all, 4 days after surgery I feel pretty darn good. I will certainly be taking my pain meds at bed time tonight, but really I seem to be one of the lucky ones. I am very thankful to be given this opportunity and we are so fortunate to live in a province where we don't have to pay for this surgery. Good luck with your surgery and wishing you a speedy recovery.
My surgeons plan was 4 weeks of Glucerna (pretty well Diabetic Boost). I made sure I ordered every flavour available and then I doctored them up. I would blend with ice, blend with ice and add a pinch of xantham gum (make it thick, more like a milk-shake), ran it through and ice cream machine so I could actually eat with utensils, made Glucernia Popsicles, and heated it up as a coffee substitute in the morning. I had enough variety that I didn't have to eat the same flavour, the same way every day.
It really isn't that bad. What I found really beneficial about the pre-op diet is it made me realize what was habit eating versus hunger eating (eg: taking a tray out of the oven and popping in a chicken nugget is habit eating lol). Also on the plus side, after that many meal replacement shakes, the broth in the hospital post-op tastes amazing!
sure, i loved it frozen or whipped. i even went so far as to put it in a big martini glass (when i wasnt at work) to feel like i was cheating or actually enjoying it ;)

Dr. Boiisvert did my surgery this past Thursday. He's great and no issues from my end.

No, Dr Beausoleil. He doesn't like the diabetic boost. Someone on here posted they are the same, but I printed out the two and there were a few things that were different.
