Topic: ONE Year tomorrow!!

Tomorrow, May 9th, is my one year surgiversary!

It's hard to believe how much has changed in a year. I've gone from a tight size 28 to a loose size 18 for jeans, a size 4X at Penningtons, to wearing an XL at Reitmans. I've lost 118 lbs so far, and am down 129lbs from my highest weight recorded. I can walk around my block briskly and not be gasping for breath. I can crank out an hour on the elliptical like it's nothing. I've had to pull the seat up in my car to drive it properly now that my belly is no longer in the way. I'm wearing dresses now, and skirts, I'm looking forward to summer for the first time in my adult life. I flew in an airplane and didn't need a seat belt extender, or for the armrest to be raised to fit my hips. I can paint my own toenails AND breathe at the same time! LOL

I still have about 60 lbs to lose, but I have no doubt that with watching my food intake and upping my exercise that I will achieve that goal this year. Right since day 1 I've kept track of my eating using the LoseIt app. Even if I go off plan and have a treat I still track it so I know where I am for the day, and that is where I believe my success has come from. I feel like this surgery has given me my life back.

For anyone still on the waiting list - don't give up hope. Your turn will come, and I hope that your experience is as positive and life changing as mine has been.

the next step for me is to keep losing, and next winter contact Dr. Boisvert's office to start talking about skin removal surgery. Again, this will be yet another surgery that will change my life. But I've got to finish this journey first before I start the next one.

Congratulations on your success!

Dr. Dool is my surgeon and he's amazing! He did my abdomen and provided top notch care (he even gave me his cell number over Christmas in case anything came up post-op!), his support staff are amazing and his work is the best. My incisions were neat and clean, I had no infections, he was always accessible and I love the results. He's very thorough and knows what he's doing. He'll be doing my legs, arms and chest as well and I'm so happy I went with him! It took approximately one year from when my referral went in, until surgery, I'd suggest getting your referral in early (about a six month wait for the first consult). If you can swing the costs, I'd definitely go for it, you'll love the results. Message me if you're interested in costs or other details.

You're a true inspiration!

Good for you! It is all the things that go along with the weight loss that make life more exciting and fun. I crossed my legs for the first time in many years a few weeks ago. I was so happy!

Topic: 7 weeks post-op RNY

It has been an amazing 7 weeks since my RNY gastric bypass.

After 7 weeks I only have 67.2 lbs to go to reach my goal of 130. This has been the most amazing experience of my life and I have Dr. Theriault and the amazing bariatric team at the George Dumont Hospital to thank.

The wait is long, but do not give up hope. When it is your time to have surgery there is no looking back because your future is so bright.

Here is my ONE YEAR post-op wrap-up.

Highest weight: 276lbs

Pre-surgery weight: 267lbs

Today's weight: 156bs

Total lost:120lbs

Goal weight was: 160lbs

SURPASED MY GOAL WEIGHT!!!!

My new goal weight: 150lbs

My personal goal weight:136lbs, for a normal BMI

20lbs to go!

My BMI is now in the 20s! 28.5 ...wow!

-Still wanting to work out, but can't find the will power to start

-Weight loss has pretty much stalled, losing about 1-2lbs per month, but gonna try my best to keep losing. I would rather keep losing slowly than not lose at all

-Water consumption getting better on some days

-my wrists are skinny. I used to not wear bracelets because I felt my wrist were too chubby.

-same thing with my neck, I wear more necklaces now

-had to have my wedding ring re-sized from 8.5 to 6.5...that's a lot! And it's still a bit lose

Going on vacation soon and I am bringing 3 bikinis....last time I wore one I was about 6 years old...gonna wear them proudly since I will be out of the country....don't expect to see me this summer around here in one...hahaha....well...you never know....depends how I feel in them I guess.

Thinking about getting a referral for plastic surgery...I really wanted to go see Skanes but she is not taking any referrals at this time...My friend had surgery with Hussein 2 months ago and looks fabulous.... I was thinking of trying Dr Dool...

Still no regrets! So grateful for this surgery, truly is life-changing

Ray - Can you confirm that Dr. Mark McMillan of Fredericton will treat bariatric patients? I got a lapband in Ontario in June 2010. I'm having great difficulty and don't know where to go in New Brunswick for help.

Thanks,

Lori

It does make perfect sense. We all want the weight to just fly off. My thought is it didn't come on over night, so it won't disappear over night. But with the surgery a continual weight loss is the new norm for us. (as long as we listen to what the bariatric team say)
