I'm from Moncton and am waiting for Medicare approval but I'll have the surgery even if I don't get it........I'm anxious to talk to those of you who have had it. I'm pretty scared ;0(

Hello to NB I am writting from Nova Scotia, no one seems to be talking over here. My doctors request has been sent to Dr.B's office in Monton. I was told that I will not hear anything till mid March because the receptionist is out sick, bummer. It is nice to exchange questions and fears. Keep in touch Laurie

Hello Shelley, I had gastric bypass surgery in Maine in June 2003....and have lost 145 pounds.. and have maintained the weight loss..... There are alot of programs out there as far as to what each Dr. expects prior to and after surgery.........the program that I completed included a preop class, attending a support group meeting, seeing the dietician, a psychologist and physical therapy before you even go to get an appointment with the surgeon......... What I can tell you is that having the surgery is a tool ......... it is not the magic solution to weight loss and there has to be significant lifestyle changes for it to be successful and remain successful.......and ONLY you can decide if it is the right thing for you to do. Being aware of what you put in your mouth is a lifelong battle and continues even after the surgery.......it is very easy to slip back into your old habits and if you find you can tolerate those not so good things then it makes it even easier to slip........
