Nothing can truly prepare you for the reality of how little you will be able to consume at a time. Before surgery you think you have a pretty good idea of how things will be and of course everyone who is still waiting will search the internet and scour the forums for info (at least I know I did) and even after having 2 sisters go through the surgery one a year and a half before me and one 3 weeks before me...I am still shocked at how different my eating habits are. So far today and it is now 4:40pm I have had 524 calories 32g carbs and 49g protein. 5 months ago I would of been at at least triple that for each amount I am sure. That is the amazing part of this surgery!!

That's compelling stuff, and I'm sure that you are right; you can't describe it, it must be experienced.

I the example above of hitting 440 in the afternoon and only 524 calories, are you hungry?

Honestly I am almost never "hungry" not in the traditional sense of the word.  I know that I need to eat and get my water...but that is, for me, the daily struggle.  I have found that I have no real problems eating salads, fish, soups, chili or chowders. But something like chicken or pork both of which I enjoy I find that I can only consume approx 1/4 cup or less (usually less) at a time.  I cannot eat eggs...I have tried on at least 4 different times and haven't been able to keep them down yet...so they are out for now. Also I cannot eat anything greasy (I tried bacon...1 strip of bacon and nope wouldn't stay down...which is probably a good thing lol)  At the end of the day you will just get used to what your new pouch and body will or won't handle.

I sympathize with the stage you are in now.  It was the hardest part for me for sure.  I was a smoker and a diet Pepsi drinker and I waited until exactly three weeks before surgery to quit both.  Actually I got up on Monday July 6th and quit food, diet Pepsi and smoking all in the same day.  By the 3rd day I could of killed someone lol...but I made it through and here I am not quite 15 weeks after surgery and I have lost as of today 80 pounds!

It is amazing and it will be the BEST thing that has every happened for you!! Stay strong!

Does it matter if we don't always drink 4 shakes per day?

It's best not to skip them, since you're taking in less than 800 calories a day with 4 of them and need all the nutrition you can get to help with the recovery period.

Try them on ice, preferably crushed ice, to help lessen the texture and taste.

To be truthful, I have not been able to stomach another protein shake or even instant breakfast shake since my surgery, so have had to add protein powder to food to make up for it.

The first few weeks on liquids are hard, the puree stage gets better and you will appreciate solid food once it's allowed!
