Things allowed on 2 week pre-op diet

I went away from the pre-op clinic with the impression that we were not allowed to add ANYTHING to our shakes and veggies, but I am seeing that others have apparently been told that they can add anything that does not add calories. I was wondering if we would be allowed to add lemon juice to steamed vegetables to give them some flavor. Also I have a delicious (seriously!) green juice that is made from spinach an celery, which are both allowed, but to give it any flavor you need to add fresh lemon juice and fresh ginger - do you think these things would be allowed? I have been thinking all along that I could not use these things to give any flavor to the veggies but it would be awesome if I could!

If in doubt, call Monique or Carole. I'm assuming you are going to Bathurst?

Yes Bathurst. I have written on my handout notes from the clinic session re the vegetables "no lemon juice or seasonings" and a sad face LOL...that was way back in October and I was hoping maybe I was wrong given that people are using things like Crystal Light, etc

The Crystal light is formulated so it doesn't have carbs.  Lemon juice on the other hand does have carbs (even if it's not a lot...0.6g in 1 lemon wedge). I used extracts in my shakes.  Could you sub lemon extract?

Personally, I'd stay away from anything that might give you any additional calroes? Is it Slimtime? If so then it would not be very palatable adding any veggies, these shakes are sure sweet and I don't think anything can cut it.

Oh no I didn't mean adding veggies to shakes, I just mean the certain veggies that we are allowed to eat aside from the shakes, and how to make them a little more interesting if just eating them raw gets boring.  I thought some of them would be good steamed and dressed with a bit of lemon juice, such as the asparagus or spinach.  Oh and I'm using Boost rather than Slim Time for the shakes, I think most people who have the surgery in Bathurst just do Boost.

Gotcha! I was not allowed anything outside the 3 shakes and 2 protein bars. It amounted to 800 cals. This is what I am averaging now almost a month post.

for bathurst, back in the day (2 years ago) we were only allowed the shakes.NO veggies. so it is a sigh of relief for the current folks going through this phase
