Finally have my date
About 3 weeks ago I posted to express my frustration over waiting so much longer than I was told for my surgery date, but now I finally have one. I will have the surgery on March 30 (in Bathurst with Dr. Savoie) and am to start the Boost diet on March 16. Since I always have to be worried about something LOL, now I'm wondering what the 14 days on Boost will be like and how much it will impact my ability to work, how I am going to deal with hunger, etc. Would love to have any advice on getting through the two weeks!
My clinic is in Moncton and they use a different product called "slimtime". It is a protein shake powder that you mix with water and any flavoring you want. They come in chocolate and vanilla and I used things like decaf instant coffee, cinnamon, rum extract with the chocolate and nutmeg and carmel extract with the vanilla shake. It was also recommended that mint extract was really good with the chocolate as well. Change it up a bit for variation and to not get tired of the same flavors. Drink lots of water and just power through it. I found that I missed the savory flavor because everything was sweet and being diabetic I got tired of the sweetness but got through it and you will as well. Good luck and if I can help in any way just let me know.

Sounds like good ideas...I tried a Strawberry Boost for lunch today (call me crazy when I don't have to yet, I just wanted to see what it would be like to replace a meal with Boost I guess)...it tasted exactly like as if you took a bottle of Flintstones chewable vitamins and melted it down and drank it LOL...I don't think I will buy any more strawberry!
Congrats on getting your date! What an exciting and yet stressful time!!
Dr. Savoie did my VSG on Jan. 12/15. I was VERY scared about the Boost diet!! I did not know how I would make it through! I agree with your description of the strawberry boost. I did not care for the vanilla either so I stuck with Chocolate. I tried different things with it. I would put it in the freezer for about an hour or so before I drank it. I poured it on ice and added different exttacts to each one. My favorites were mint, orange and almond. For me, the third day was the absolute worst. By the end of the 2 weeks, while I was still enjoying the shakes I just did not feel like drinking them and had dropped to 2 or 3 a day (which they will give you hell for at the clinic if you tell them). I struggled with constipation too but found that Pegalax worked well for me at that time. I drank gallons of water every day and I flavoured that as well. I did eat the veggies a couple of times. I was worried on surgery day because I had only lost 10 pounds but it was obviously enough because my surgery went as planned.
I wish you the best of luck as you move through your journey! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!
Congrats on the date! I was sleeved on Feb 13th and started my pre-op diet on Jan 30. It was hard to follow just the shakes for 2 weeks but after the third day, it got a lot easier. I ended up loosing about 17lbs dyring that time and I stuck to it like a crazy woman. The only thing that saved me from that overwhelming sweet taste was freezing strong coffee in ice cubes and adding them to the shakes. Towards the end I didn't finish all of the shakes, I just couldn't handle the sweetness anymore.
Take le care and if you need to chat, I can also be reached on Facebook. It's Terry draded. I tend to check that more often than this site. I'm from Saint John.
No, Moncton. I really like the idea of talking to local people who are going through this as well. What's your post diet like? If it's like the Moncton one you will need to stock up on protein powders. The Corn Crib on King street sells PB2. It's a protein powder you can add to cho or vanilla protein drinks to make the taste better and it also ups the protein. Also, grab some Ideal Protein packages (medicine shop/grandbay). They are 80 cals and 20 g of protein. You add the drink to water and they taste good and help you to meet your protein requirements.
how long were you on the waiting list before you got the call? i was told 3 years ago by my previous doc that i was on a waiting list however after a change in doctor i found out the referral was never sent so my waiting is starting all over again. i'm just curious what kind of wait times to expect.
thanks :)
I was put on the waiting list in January of 2009. Then in June of 2014 I finally got the call to go for my consultation. So five and half years there. I then visited the clinic a couple more times, to meet the surgeon and sign the papers and for the pre-op nutrition clinic day etc. My full-day clinic was October 22nd. I had been waiting since then to actually get my call for the surgery. All my bloodwork was also done way back in October, so now I have to go back next week and repeat some of it before the surgery. All together it will be a little over six years from being placed on the waiting list until surgery.
