Passing gas

So I know it's an indelicate topic, but I have some questions. I tend to burp a lt, and it makes my stomach feel like it's cramping for a couple of seconds before it relaxes. Now I'm worried that it may be hurting my stomach. Also, I've been farting a lot more today and was wondering how long was it before people expect to have a bowel movement?  When should I think it's too long and get a stool softener before it's really too long??

Hi, I remember when I had my children and was given pain killers after my C Sections I was also given stool softeners right away and with each pain pill I also got a dulcolax (side note- I thought that it was senekot that I finally took but just realized it was dulcolax they were little red gell pills) to help combat the constipation that goes with the narcotics. Surgery itself puts your bowels to sleep and that can cause constipation on it's own too. I took stool softeners 9 days after surgery and that was awful and too long for me I wish I had had them right away I know it would have saved me a lot of misery.  I even tried two glycerin suppositories before getting the dulcolax. If your worried about your stomach and taking meds, call Dr B's office but considering he probably sent you home with some Dilaudid or what ever, I don't think that some dulcolax would be that bad for you. If you are worried about it ask Dr B or your pharmacist. passing gass is normal for a while and should be a good thing. I don't think anyone's gas and pain are the same, I don't remember cramping after burping, but I couldn't really drink much and it's pretty much a haze for me after 9 months. I do remember that every day got a bit better so I hope that the same goes for you!

I only needed the dilaudid the first night. The belly gas was gone through the night and the other stuff is more uncomfortable than painful. But now it's over five days since I went to the bathroom. I feel bloated and even though I have no problem farting, it stills feels uncomfortable. Has Dr b told anyone they could take stool softeners after the surgery?  I bought Senokot and it comes as a liquid so that shouldn't be bad. Just don't want to mess anything up. Otherwise I will wait until Monday to call the office. It just seems so long away...lol

I'm glad that you got over that speed bump! Did you take something or did it just happen on it's own?

I know once I went the first time I started to feel better right away, not great but at least human again!

I bought senacot but was waiting til Monday to call the office about taking it. Then I just had the urge and went. But your right about it not being normal, most was straight liquid. Oh well I guess what you put in is what comes out. Lol. I'm still on mixed liquids. Now to find out about this stomach acid.  All these years I thought this feeling was that I was really hungry.  If it is just too much stomach acid I'm gonna be so upset at myself for all the binge eating I didn't need to do...just trying to make the "hunger pangs" go away.
