Where to begin?

I am new here and am looking for any information regarding were to start with the process of getting surgery! I live in southeastern nb. Any info would be great! 

Hey Manders101.. I am in Oromocto, but there is people on here from everywhere, Fredericton, St.John, Moncton, P.E.I. everywhere.. You have to go see your doctor and ask for your doctor to put a referral in for weight loss surgery. There is two choices of surgery in Bathurst with Dr. Savoie.. the sleeve (VSG) or the lapband.. and as far as I know its the same in Moncton with Dr. B .. Im not sure exactly what the wait is in Moncton but in Bathurst (where Im having my surgery) its a 4-5 year wait.. Now dont let that discourage you. It is well worth the wait in the end.. Im sure there is more people on here that can give you more info if you like.. Good luck and call your doctor a.s.a.p if you are even considering, at least to get the ball rolling.. :)

Hello there,just like the ladies have said, you need to get a referral from your own Doctor first.I have not been into see Dr.Savoie yet , but everyone has told me it is totally worth the wait. I have been patiently waiting over 4 years now, but I know in the end , all will be good. And it is the end result  that I'm excited for. 

There are so many different insights on this forum, all the people on here are wonderful and very helpful with their journeys and stories. I have  lots of questions, but I will wait to see Dr.Savoie to have them answered.

So just get to your doctor and get your name on the list. Trust me , time does go by fast.

I called Dr.Savoie's office today and was told that they are still working on the May/June 2009 list grrrr they've been on that list for close to a year now and it still not done. I am Dec 2009 and hoping to have it by the Spring but I don't think it will happen. The receptionist told me they still had many on that list to cover for May/June 2009. Seems like it's stuck there and not moving ahead but it always depends on who you talk to at the clinic. One positive thing she told me was that for the last couple  of weeks they now have their own instead of sharing the staff from the hospital so it should start moving faster.

just to add to lesley's post, there is also a dr in fredericton that was starting a few appointments last year.  i havent heard much lately and i saw somewhere that his surgeries may be on hold but it is worth asking about.

Hi, i put my name last year for Frederiction with Dr Boievert and he send some paperwork to my dr to be filled.  So you can try the Dr. In Fredericton.    My name is for Bathurst also and the secretary told me that the waiting time was 3 to 5 yrs

Wow! Thank you all! 4-5 years! That seems crazy and a really really long time. I have lost 40 pounds in the last 6 months and seem stuck now. My only other wonder is if my dr will even refer me cause I have lost weight and I think I may be under the 40 bmi.  Does any one know of what qualifies you? 

you have a bmi over 40% and if you suffer from health problems like heart ,diebetic or joint trouble do to your weight. i waited  since may of 2009 for meeting with the doctor beausolie now i'm waiting for my surgery date from the dumount health center when i talk to the doctor in nov 2013  to sign my papers he told me that it be 6 months to wait  before i have my surgery due to the back up of people that are waiting to have the operation done.

Hi there - the wait time for me from when my family doctor sent in my consult - until I actually had surgery, was 3 yrs. Keep in mind I had my surgery in 2008, and I came from out of province. My BMI was 41 - but I had some health issues due to my weight. Good luck to you!
