How long a wait?
When I went for my consult, I met with the nurse first and she took my blood pressure, weight, listed meds, and medical history. She gave me pamphlets about the lap band and sleeve. She spoke about depression and how people that are overweight are usually food addicts and some people become very depressed if they haven't dealt with the emotional side of eating. She spoke about transfer addictions.
I then met with the dietician and we spoke about what I ate. She emphasized some of the things to start doing before surgery i.e. not drinking 30 minutes before and after a meal, not using straws, ensure to get in the habit of eating breakfast.
Then I met with Dr. Savoie who explained the two types of surgery that he does and that sometimes he will refer a patient to Quebec for a third type ( I thing it was the DS or RNY). He asked why I wanted the surgery. He reviewed the risks of surgery. At that appointment I signed the consent for surgery papers. Sometimes he will ask people to wait a month to think a bit more about the surgery before signing the papers.
That is what I remember about my consult.
Please allow me to chime in - from the time my consult was sent to Dr. Beuasolieil back in 2004 = it was almost exactly 4 yrs until my surgery - April 2008. So it seems wait times have not changed a whole lot. Which I suspect is why we are seeing people going out of the country and saef/paying - my husband did that. Good luck everyone!
