Ok so here's my situation: whenever I do any amount of walking, especially involving stairs my knees kill me. I think it's the ligaments and tendons especially just above and upper sides of my knee caps. Has anyone else had this problem? And more important, with the extreme weight lss ( more than 100 lbs) did it get any better? I am so afraid that this is my life forever! My dr says it may get better, but it sounds like one of those standard answers. I have been two weeks germany walking up and down hills, visiting castles, then Paris, and everyday in extreme pain. I am afraid that I will never be able to enjoy regular things without pain. Anyone else who've gone through the surgery have any experiences?
You may have osteo arthritis. I had the exact type of pain that you explained and ended getting a knee brace for it. Since I have lost weight it hardly bothers me at all. I haven't been wearing the brace because I have to go and have it adjusted. I also noticed with the weight loss my feet aren't swelling either.
Hope you find some relief soon.

I was diagnosed with osteo arthritis, but didn't think this pain was from that. If I push on where the pain is, it is almost like a painful massage. I do get some relief when I deeply massage the areas that hurt. And I can feel the tendons move under my fingers. I thought the arthritis was more in the bones under the knee cap?? Maybe I just need to do some more research.
There is no guarantee weight loss will cure your knee pain and other arthritic pain - but personally - I was able to stop taking arthrotec and continue working as an ER nurse doing 12hr shifts since I had surgery. My back and hip and ankle x rays are awful - but I have very little discomfort most days. Keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck!
