Scared

So, as my time gets closer or at least I think....lol   I am getting more scared. Not scared of my change of diet or anything but scared to end up with severe complications or even not making it through surgery. Has anybody else been really nervous? I know its a big surgery but everyone seems to sail right through. Does anyone know of any horror stories? All we hear on this forum is how happy everyone is and how it has changed there life for the good in so many ways.  I am just really scared I guess.

hi anxious girl, i'd say at this stage you dont want to be thinking of what can go wrong, the best way to get through this is trust your doctor and his team, they have done this surgery on tons of people it makes a big difference when you go in the morning of the surgery hopeful and optimistic, i got through it by staying calm, and the surgery went really well, in nb i dont think the doctors have lost a single patient, when i went in i was 491 lbs, they had to have 2 doctors perform the surgery to make sure there was no complications, if your doc does not think he can handle it he will call in for help

Perfectly normal to have concerns. I am only aware of one person on this board who had a complication. Dr. Savoie stated that he only had one patient have a leak and that did not happen until about a month after surgery. One complication out of the hundreds that he is performed is a really good track record. Really I was surprised how well I did as I expected it to be worse.

Like I stated earlier and I have been on this board for 4 years and am only aware of one person who had complications however I do not know what factors or prior health conditions that may have attributed to her complication.

Think of it this way, most bariatric clinics release their patients about 24 hours after the surgery. That isn't done here but most other provinces and states do that so the statistics of complications must be fairly low.

Try not to even think of that honey... Just think of the risks if you DONT have surgery!! I know that every surgery is different, but I have had two c-sections, gall bladder surgery, appendix removed and hopefully soon my sleeve and all I can think is bring it on!! lol Dont be scarred honey..think positive, there are risks in most things we do in life..this is a good one..

Totally normal, I`ve just gone thru this 2 weeks ago.  With this surgery you have the same risks as any other surgery.  My family doctor told me, if you have to have an emergency operation to remove your appendix, you would not have time to stress over it.

The most important thing, you have to follow your diet as indicated to avoid complications, you have to allow your stomach to heal.  I am on another facebook group and someone in Ontario said the day after surgery they can have purees.. I think the 2 weeks liquids will have us avoid complications.
