Just wondering if anyone can provide info on situations where they had a panniculectomy covered by NB Medicare...and what Dr they used...along with how long they waited to see the surgeon....Any response is appreciated.

I believe that your referral comes from your surgeon. I haven't heard of anyone being turned down yet for this surgery. I wish Dr. Savageau was still here as I would request her however she has moved to Montreal.

I don't think there is a long wait for plastics but I could be wrong.

How have you been doing?

I am doing great!

At my 3 month mark...i weighed 50 lbs down by my DR's scale.  Many have lost more...but I am feeling good...and did it for my health right?  LOL  I have to keep reminding myself of that...(:

I have not gotten sick, and NO..I do not have chronic diarrhea(common misconception with the DS)....I can eat pretty much all types of food...although foods with flour blow me up like a balloon..I started drinking a protein shake every morning...just to boost my protein intake....and go for my Surgeon appt in August...so will know how my labs are doing then.

How are things with you?

I chose the DS because I wanted to lose 100+ lbs...knew it was the surgery that would do that(so far im on track)...I also had diabetes, sleep apnea, borderline hypertension and was very limited in mobility,so needed and wanted to lose it rather quickly. Would get the DS a million times over...thats how happy i am (:

50 pounds is awesome! Due to other medical conditions that I have my surgeon thinks I may have a slower weight loss and my overall weight loss won't be as significant as others. I will take whatever I get. I was on a pity party for a couple of days but am over that now. Bent over yesterday and got severe pain, when it didn't relent about 5 hours later headed to ER. Had a CT scan and got some wonderful drugs...and broke out into a very severe allergic reaction. Hard way to find out I am allergic to the dye that they injected for the CT scan. I didn't pop anything or have a leak, the doctor attributed the pain to a pulled muscle or possible cracked rib. Still hungover today from the happy drugs but other than that doing pretty good.

Oh, I am sorry to hear about your pain, and allergic reaction, but happy to hear bout the meds (:
I remind myself all the time, everyone is different..even with the same surg, and same starting stats...but it doesnt mean i dont stress about it....its my nature...

All i know is that i made the right decision, and for once in my adult life the scale is moving in the right direction...enjoying the ride!!

PM me if you ever feel like talking live!

I have a co worker, her spouse lost over 140 pounds and he is with Dr. Beausoleil in Moncton, his name was sent for a tummy tuck due to severe rashes in Feb of this year.. they were informed there was only 1 Dr, she is a female in Moncton area that does plastics for weight loss patients and would be covered by medicare, the wait list to see her is about 1 year I was told.

When I went to my information session in Bathurst, the nurse informed us she had just spoken to Dr. Gomez, plastic surgeon and he informed them that medicare didn't cover skin removal surgery!  My information session was in April 2013.

I know I heard in the past at times it was covered and other times it wasn't.. depending on medicare cuts.

At the clinic today and heard from another patient that plastics are not being covered at this time. The surgeon told her that there has been only one approval and that was an extreme case.
