What the heck did I do????

So I am now 3 weeks out from surgery. Here are some thoughts and wonder if anyone else can relate?

- eating is a chore- will I ever be able to eat normally again (normal by regular people not by the obese person)

- any regrets having the surgery

- when will I feel better? I am so tired and feel really unwell all this week

- will it ever stop being uncomfortable when I eat? (only thing I find that I can tolerate right now is beans in sauce and only about 2 tbsp.)

- will it always take this much time to get food and liquids in? All I feel like I am doing is eating and drinking all day.

- how long does the hormone/emotional thing last?

- the scales have not moved in almost 2 weeks although the boobs have deflated by one cup size. Am I at the stall already?

Anybody able to share some information. I am feeling a bit discouraged this week. In my head I know it will pass but having a pity party right now

Pity party all you want honey... Not that I have answers to any of your questions, but I did have a friend that had the surgery and she said once she got in her grove and figured it out and found the foods that bothered her she was good to go.. hang in there. Im sure its very hard but in the end Im sure it will be WELL worth it..like I said once you get in your grove and figure things out, you will start to feel and amazing and wonder why you even ever questioned yourself..Im sure the worst will soon be over.. All the best and I hope someone else has some good answers for you..

Eating and drinking seemed to be a full time job in the first 6 weeks or so for me..

No regrets!

I never had the tiredness but I read posts from many on the forums who have experienced this and I believe it will go away. Remember that you're calorie deficient right now so it makes sense. As the weight comes off, you'll feel so much better. Are you taking your vitamin B? I get a b-12 shot monthly (one less vitamin to take) so that might be something to look into.

I tolerated all foods right from the get-go but I do know that it can be uncomfortable when you eat just one bite too many but I find that passes in 15 - 30 minutes. I'm still amazed at a little over four months out, how little I can eat. I don't know if we can ever eat a 'normal' size person's meal but I don't think it'll be any time soon. Our surgeon in Moncton didn't clear solid foods until 4 weeks so maybe that's the difference for you, maybe it's too early (I got the impression you were eating solids so disregard if I'm wrong).

Not sure what you mean by the hormones / emotional feelings, I didn't experience that but maybe that's related to the tiredness you're feeling?

OMG the plateau nearly sent me over the edge. I stalled at 2 weeks when I started pureed foods and it lasted about 6 weeks. I might have lost 1 pound or 2 but it was crazy! I tried eating low carb, high protein, upping my calories, and then the opposite, nothing helped. I guess some bodies do truly go into shock. This was a really hard stage to go through. You wonder if your sleeve is broken, are you the one person it's not going to work for. It's hard to comprehend eating so little and not losing weight. I lost inches in the first week or two of the stall but nothing after that until the scale started moving again. So know that this does happen and it really DOES pass!

I really hope you start to feel better soon. This should be a joyous time, you're on the other side of surgery, you're where everyone pre-op wants to be! I have no doubt you'll start to feel better soon. Make sure you get outside and enjoy this great weather this weekend and even get in some small walks if you're able. There are definitely ups and downs post-op but know you'll get through this and soon it will just be a distant memory and although I know that's not helpful now! Feel free to touch base with the surgeon's office to see if there is any advice they can offer.

Feel free to ask questions and keep us posted on your recovery.

Thanks Cindy. I am not on solids yet. A couple of more days to go. Everything is still pureed.

After all my complaining I think it boils down to the fatigue. It really is chronic. I have been up for about 2 hours now and really could crawl back in bed and sleep a couple more. I am not napping through the day at all but maybe I should?

I think you should listen to your body, if you need sleep take a nap and don't feel guilty about it.

We are living on much less calories and I imagine it can take a while for the body to adjust.

Are you getting enough protein in, if not you might not be getting enough to give you some energy.

How are you making out on liquids, I was operated on June 12 and the liquids are doing much better, I don't often get the pain from drinking clear liquids, only when I drink my smoothie too fast.

To get my protein I drink smoothies with milk, greek yogurt and some fruit and also for snacks chocolat milk.  I can't really stand boost anymore and I don't like breakfast drinks.  What kinds of pureed have you tried?  Are you having problems with some of the foods or just anything you can't eat more than 3 tbsp.

I am doing pretty good with liquids. Most of my purees were pureed soups. I have had smoothies with greek yogurt and some protein powder. Today is a bit better for eating. I won't be able to get in 1/2 cup or even 1 cup yet.

Glad to hear you are doing well.

Every day will be better!  I had my first puree this morning, molasses beans.  I was able to eat 1/2 cup, didn't want to pu**** but had no problems.. I really wasn't sure what to expect since for some people it's all over the board.

Take care, chat soon!
