Having WLS shortly??? Some Suggestions -

Just thought I would jot down a couple of suggestions for those going in for surgery. Others may have things to add.

If you are heavy breasted take a good cotton bra and put it on as soon as possible after surgery.  I found the weight of my breast laying on the large incision was uncomfortable.

Take you own pillow - the ones at the hospital are hard as a rock and I found mine was a good soft support when I wanted to lay on my side.

As much as it hurts get up and walk. I didn't use the washroom in my unit. I walked to the patient one in the hall.  Walking gets easier the more you do it.

When getting out of bed, use your bed controls to put your bed up in the highest sitting position. Much easier on the tummy to  get in and out of bed.

Take your pain meds regularly even if you think you don't need them. I made the mistake of thinking I didn't need them and boy did I make a mistake by not taking them. It set me back a bit with the pain getting out of control.

The cream soups are very bland. If you don't have a problem with blood pressure then head down to the kitchen on the floor and grab a couple packs of salt/pepper to help with the flavor.

I could not tolerate a bra as the big incision ended up under by bra band. I used to put a small towel under my breast to soak up moisture a bit. I find for any tummy surgery, sleeping on your sides is the best way to go about getting everything all stretched out as it was before surgery. I know some people are afraid of causing pain but once you are on your side and relax, you will feel much better and so will your back.

I agree. I am a side sleeper and found once I got over the fear of causing more pain I found it better to sleep on my side. I put my pillow beside me for support.

I also found that putting a pillow under the side of my belly helped ease the feeling of tightness and pulling and made it easier to sleep on my side... Good Luck!!!

Thanks for all the helpful information, it's really appreciated.

My date is approaching fast, today I went to see the pre op nurse and the stress level is up there.

Today is day 6 of boost and I'm having no problems at all so far.

I thought it would be harder for the 2 weeks on boost but it wasn't bad at all. I never felt hungry on it.
