Pre-op shakes

Anyone else with Dr. B have a hard time with these shakes we had to have pre-op? As I said in an earlier post, the company discontinued the bars so it's 4 shakes a day. Sure, I miss food but I can make do with 4 shakes a day (I'm 5 days into the 2 week pre-op diet so I'm over the cravings). I drank protein shakes every morning for breakfast for the past few months and they didn't bother me at all - I liked them. Problem is, these shakes taste horrible to me! I can't stand the smell, taste, after taste or the way I feel afterwards. I've tried freezing them, reducing the amount of powder/adding more water, adding extracts and nothing is working. I broke down and had broth for supper last night because I just couldn't have another nasty shake. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what did you do to get through it?

I go for my follow up on Tuesday (and am hopeful that they have some suggestions or alternatives then) but I need to figure something else out in the meantime.

adding a couple drops of an extract may help a little too. like banana or peppermint etc.

if you crush ice you can also make a "slushy" drink. like a slurpee :)

check with his office, they may allow you to go with the diabetic boost. they are a bit better in texture and flavor. i froze mine and had them half frozen and they were a lot better than the stuff you have to order

Thanks for the suggestions. The only thing that has kind of worked has been adding peanut butter...it kind of masks the taste but the shakes still make me feel gross afterwards but I'm trying to get at least 3 a day. Hoping I get a recommended alternative tomorrow. Not sure what I am going to do with all these leftover shakes though since they aren't returnable! :S

Keep the shakes. You might need them after surgery. Stuff you can't stomach right now might taste really good after surgery. For me it was the case, really weird change in tastes.
