Band failure!

I was wondering if anyone has been successful with the band, It does not look like anyone is getting a new band, it looks like the sleeve is the surgery of choice. I am 3 years out, have had my band replaced almost 2 years ago, but I am not losing weight. Overall I am down 40 pounds but I have gone up & down the same 10 pounds for well over a year. I have all but given up- I canceled my last appointment at the clinic, I am tired of wasting my time.

I have been wondering how you have been. Nice to see you back. Would you consider a VSG?

I met a woman in Bathurst when I was there who had the band and wasn't finding it too successful however there is a member here who just had one and is doing well and is quite satisfied with theirs.

I was thrilled with mine for the first 6 months too. I lost 88 pounds before mine failed. Thanks for replying.

I am very happy for your success. I was very successful for a while but not since the failure of the first band. I lost 85 pounds over the first 6 months or so, then my weight went up and down as my band was filled then completely unfilled 3 times. Then the doctor decided it must have slipped.  It was a year before I had any restriction again.  Now I really have given up-I don't follow the rules anymore. Some rules I follow because I don't really have a choice. I can't eat very much, I don't drink with meals (a habit now), and there are several ban unfriendly foods I don't eat. I don't pay attention to how much water I drink, but I guess that most days I drink enough. I exercise a fair amount because I enjoy hiking.  I just gain weight as easy as ever and don't lose weight any more.

I'm sorry to say I haven't heard many positive things about the band long term.( From researching and talking to friends).

I had the VSG done in Mexico in November and the guy that was done the same day as me had his band removed and the VSG done. He is doing great now.

Would it be a long wait to get the VSG with your Surgeon?

He does not do anything but the band for patients over 55 years old. I am 59.

OMG! I'm going to be 54 and this fellow I'm talking about was older than me. If you could go to Mexico I'm sure they would do a VSG for you. I'm sure you've seen me on here talking about Dr. Kelly. I'm sure every one is sick of me going on abut him but he is a great surgeon.

I also know that not everyone can pick up and go down to Mexico. I really hope you find a solution.

Keep us posted if you find a solution.(does the Bathurst surgeon have the same rule?)

Good Luck

I too have had my band 3.5 years and although I lost well the first year, struggled to lose anymore after. I would go up and down. To be honest totally my fault. So I joined ww online and am back to losing again. Am 20 lbs from goal. The band helps but is not the easy fix I was led initially to believe. I am still "dieting".

Are you attending the monthly meetings?? If you are not, maybe that could help out and encourage you in starting over fresh and maybe get new tips on what could help with making your band work.
