Letter or call?
Had my first consult today with Dr Semerjian. I didn't ask about the psych session, I think it depends how you answer to the questions, such as if you have any addictions??
I was explained the surgery and then told it would be 4-5 months to get surgery from when you sign.
I was given the information and then asked to see me again in a month, I told him I have been thinking for the past 4 years and he said that sometimes when they sign people up right away they notice that when surgery time comes around people are not ready.
I think there is only so much preparation you can do.
He would like for me to continue not drinking any pop and start not liquids 30 minutes before or after meals to get use to it and I was also asked to start exercising.
I will be getting a call/letter in a month for the final decision, I guess 1 more month where I'm at will not make much of a difference.
Well another step done. I wonder if Dr. Semerjian works differently than Dr. Savoie? I was accepted right away but this is what I had done prior to the consult:
2 years researching and thinking about weight loss surgery. After the 2 years I asked my GP to send in a consult. About 18 months ago I started a class called "Craving Change" at my local community center. This course dealt with the emotional aspects of eating and did not involve weigh ins etc. After that course was over I then started a weight management program at the same community center that was 8 weeks and was with a dietician. Through that program (I did it twice) I lost 52 lbs.
I think that is why I may have been accepted right away?
Did Dr. Semerjian indicate what he believes makes people ready for the surgery?
Did they give you any sort of timelines for you surgery? I too am on the list for Bathurst and not sure who is my surgeon but would be interested to know if the two dr. 'S do things differently. It would be frustrating to wait 4 years like us and then to be told to take more time to "think about it" hello....we have been waiting and researching for 4 years!
Dr. Savoie told me that my surgery would be done this spring (within about 2 months). I signed my surgery papers in his office after we reviewed my files. So I was accepted for surgery right away. Both the nurse and doctor were impressed with the steps I had already taken to prepare for my life changes that would be coming with the surgery.
