Hair loss?? Any suggestions???
SO...weight loss is going good...this time last year I was about 370...today...I am 268...but....I have major hair loss now....I always eat my protein, but wasn't really having many snacks the first 6 months or so as I was never "hungry", so now I take a bag of almonds with me just in case I get hungry and for snacks.....surgery was May 10th, so I am able to eat almost anything to a limit...
Has anyone tried any pills or special shampoo...what works...????
How much protein exactly are you getting? are you keeping track? they suggest at least 60 g of protein per day, depending on how long you might have been at 60 or over, it might take a while for your body to adjust.
I have over 60 g per day for awhile now, and i also take one 10,000 mcg of Biotin daily. Not sure if it's the combination, or just the protein intake, but at 3 months out, my hair started to fall out pretty bad! big chunks coming out daily, that lasted about 2-3 months before it got under control again. However i was far from 60 g of protein till about 6 months out.
Hope that helps.
Yeah...I am not one to "keep track" of the numbers...but eat protein first at every meal...eggs, chicken and ground beef would be my main protein, and like you said...at about 6 months I was finally able to just eat a little more each meal...gets easier...my hair never fell out in clumps, but one by one...my hairdresser noticed it just this last week where as I have noticed it for a month or so...Can I get the Biotin anywhere or is it a GNC type thing??
Thanks for the advice...
In the stores where i live, i could only get i think 500 mcg, i ordered mine through Amazon, here is the link:

i also have hair loss but i dont think mine is so much a "loss" as breakage.
the texture of my hair started changing at around 4 months out and at 7.5 months out, i have lost bout 9 inches off the length and i havent gotten it cut. it is also coarse now. i use a shampoo and conditioner with keretin in it and take a multi vitamin thats it.
i eat both protein and carbs (as the dietician made me promise i would do so). i also still drink one protein shake a day, usually the premier ones from costco as they have like 25 grams in them.
not sure if its the amount of weight you lose, how fast it goes or the surgery itself that makes the loss happen, there are posts to support all these theories in here.
any suggestions are welcome :0)

I am 4 months out and it started about 1.5 months ago. My hair was suddenly very coarse and then began falling out. Totally normal so I am told. Its from the rapid weight loss. It may continue to happen despite eating high amounts of protein according to Dr. Savoie. I started Biotin, Vit D and increasing my protein and it has sort of plateaued. I having been getting protein treatments at the hairstylist monthly. I dont know which is helping but something seems to have slowed it down.
