finding information on lap band surgery
No matter which option you think you want, get your name on to both of the wait lists, Moncton and Bathurst. Once you get your first meeting, they will talk to you about which option is the best for you and go from there...but first...get your name out there...Dr B in Moncton had told me that he felt the Band was best for people who have less than 75 lbs to lose...and talking to the NUT last week, she said it is getting to the stage where he is doing more and more "sleeve" surgeries now and less Bands...Do some research and look back to the old postings on here...there are a few disgruntled people who have not had great success.....With the band, you need to live close to the place of surgery as there are often appointments for the Dr to fill the band or to remove some fluid...lots of extra running...
I hope you hear from someone who actually has a Band...I had a sleeve done May 10th and since surgery, I am down 70lbs in the 6 months...plus the 30 I lost in the 3 months leading up to my date...100 total gone forever...love it...still have another 100 or so to go...but it has been the best thing EVER for me and my family...
Good luck
Yes..it is Dr Beaulouis (sp) in Moncton...get your family Dr to refer you to him and then you will have at least 2 years to research it...but I would suggest to get your name on both lists...get him to refer you to both places....one may be faster than the other...but theystill have a wait time of at least a year...and for me it was 3 years...things have gotten better...
Congrats on making the first move and welcome to the club..
I have been on Dr. Savoie's waitlist for over 4 years - had a call in March?? just to verify that I still wanted to be on the list, and no indication of when I would be called for my first appointment....waiting....waiting....waiting.....sigh. Now ma cousine Gail is doing marvellous, since ?May? - I am going to call tomorrow afternoon to see whassup.
Please research the band carefully. Many people are getting the band removed and getting the VSG done. i know 2 people personally who had them removed and then were sleeved.
Here in NS a decision was made for the surgeon to do one type of surgery only and the VSG was chosen. I at one time was considering the lap band but I'm so glad I had the VSG done. Good Luck.
I have had my band since March 2009. I am down only 60 lbs and still have 80 or so to go. The band will work to the same degree as the work you put in. I have had multiple unfills and just last month found out I had 'stretched' my pouch...clearly trying to eat more than I should while being too tight. Rules are meant to be followed and as long as you can do that, you should have great success. I, on the other hand, have not followed the rules as I should. In my defense, partially, I have a real hard time telling if I'm too tight or just eating too fast or too big of bites. Good luck on your journey. It does not matter which surgery you get as long as you've researched it and ,together with your doctor, decide it's right for you and you're in the mindset to put in some effort. Take care, Starr
