I am hoping someone could tell me if I am normal or not. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I have never been an emotional eater... but for some reason this week, I have been so hungry.... stomach grumbling hungry, not just stuffing my emotions hungry. My nerves are shot... my son's wife decided to call it quits this week and he moved back home. He is going through roller coaster hell emotionally. He did not see the break up coming, the rest of the family did. I am trying to keep my wits about me, not easy... but it is happening.

My husband started a new job today, so this is positive news.

Anyway to my question, has anyone had this severe hunger before going on the pre-op diet? I am so scared I am going to gain weight but I keep watching the scale and it has not changed within points... like +/- 0.5 pounds.

Did anyone have any stressors prior to their pre-op diet? If so, how did you over come them? I don't want to go into the OR under a lot of stress. Or am I just having the pre-surgeies worries. I have had a lot (at least 6) major operations in my life and NEVER have I been so scared or stressed... I am not sure what it is.

I would love to hear your story and how you handled it.

Thanks so much,

Danielle

 Hi Danielle,

Sorry to hear about your son.  Good news about your husband's new job!!

The rest you are feeling, about food, YOU are definately NORMAL!!!

I think we probably went through a food funeral before surgery.  I ate a lot, thinking, "this might be the last time i eat this" so i would just eat eat and eat some more. Worried i would never be able to have that food again.

When you have a food addiction, and at this point, i think we can all say that that is / was the reason we had to decide on this surgery for help.  It's hard mentally to think about what will happen to our addiction, or how to deal with no longer eating the way we were.

The "severe" hunger is probably because the surgery is so close and i think this is probably normal for most people.

Don't worry about gaining weight, even if you gain a little, it's not the end of the world, and you should have started your 2 week pre op diet as of now and the "Hunger" , "Grumbling Hungry" part will be OVER soon!!

I am exactly 7 months out today, don't regret my decision at all!! Would do it all over again, and have not felt any HUNGER at all since surgery!! That is the #1 thing that helps with this journey for me.

I can also eat 95% of all the foods i ate before, so don't worry either, you will be able to eat everything at one point, you just have to choose the right foods to put in your mouth, which in my opinion is another HUGE part of this surgery working, you can fit so little and takes so little to fill you up that it's nessesary to fill your little tummy with all the right stuff and nutrients your body nees.

You are in good hands with Dr B as your surgeon and you will do great!!

Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or just want to chat!

Good luck with your upcoming surgery, to your new life and keep us posted!!
