Soft food??
VSG on 05/10/12
ADVICE, PLEASE.....Okay...so on Thursday of this week, I can move to pureed food....SO what has anyone found to be good??? I am sure there are a few of you out there that have a few great ideas about what we can/should eat?? Other than Whipped potatoes...what is good??
The only thing I really enjoyed was chili pureed. It is not that much different than it always is and the look doesn't turn you off. I also liked mixing fruit with yogurt... I tried Greek yogurt but I found it a bit bitter... it was packed with protein though so I went for it anyway.
I also usually had the just add milk/water baby oatmeal mixed with apple sauce.
Good luck!!

Hi,
I hope all is going well!
- Tuna Salad
- Egg Salad
- Spaghetti sauce with ricotta cheese and a bit of mozza, heated to bubbling
- Soups strained
- Refried beans with melted mixed cheese
- Greek yogurt
- Smoothies
- Hummus (teaspoon)
- Spoonful or two of flavoured cream cheese (kind of sounds gross but it was good to kind of suck on it and it melted in my mouth) I bought the smoked salmon.
I also ate chili a few times. I think I told you before, in week 4, I mashed shipwreck dinner and baked beans and beef vegetable soup, all with lots of whatever sauce they were cooked in. I could only eat a couple of bites but once I got on to this stage, life was much better! I stayed to this stage for weeks 4 and 5. Than I think end of week 5 I started eating fish and things such as meatballs in a sauce and a bit of chicken. I still have a hard time with chicken, so much so that I really don't bother eating it. I can only have a small bite or two, so I don't get any protein from it.
I think I mentioned that I found this stage hard, mostly because of going from all liquids to a thicker food entering my belly. It was a bit of adjustment but nothing that you won't be able to work your way through.
Good Luck! Call or write if you need anything.

It was the puree stage that I really missed textures of food!!! Some options that I had included:
cottage cheese,
egg custard (protein)
scrambled or poached eggs
greek yougurt (higher in protein)
sweet potato/yam
Plus if you have a Magic Bullet or blender you can puree most anything, lol
be careful with potatoes as if "puree/whip" too long they become like starchy glue
invest in some good gravy for turkey/chicken as need the moisture and flavor
clam chowder
stews or soups
I still have a shake most days with milk, protein powder, peanut butter and banana to really get a packed full protein "meal" that is easy to get down without worrying so much about the gas factor as it can still send me for a loop if I swallow air ... sometimes wish I had practiced burping more, lol.
Good luck, remember the journey continues to get better :)

Thanks everyone...Thursday is coming soon...I can't wait....and I totally agree with the gas thing, Michelle...it is hard to drink my water as I am burping the whole time after and almost feel sick......the chicken broth is getting very boring and tasteless, even with the extra pepper....I do have a bullet and plan to make good use of it. I am going to make a pot of spaghetti sauce tomarrow for the family and have some set aside for me too...I had heard too that the Chilli at Tim's is good and the size is good too....It sill be interesting....
HOw long do you wait til you can have a salad?? Just asking??? I do back to get the staples removed on the 29th...so I may start writing down some questions.....

Hi Tracey! Here is a recipie that I copied from another message board. It's going to be high on my list of things to try! :)
Sauté fresh spinach in vegetable or chicken broth (I also threw in some garlic and shallot), when done add nonfat ricotta and a bit of Parmesan cheese and blend/purée with an immersion blender.
Spread puréed mixture in bottom of a small casserole pan and cover with prepared spaghetti sauce (no sugar added) and top with a little more Parmesan cheese. Bake until bubbly.
