Beginner Questions
Hi, so I have my appt to talk to my doctor about a referal at the end of this month. I have been reading peoples story's on here and I have a couple questions. What type of tests did everybody have to have before there surgery? I know it will probably be different for many people Im just wondering about what can happen or I guess what people go through beforehand. ALso what is the diet like before and after? I'm leaning towards Gastric bypass since I have alot of weight to loose. IM 5'2 280. Any info you can give me on the process would be fantastic :)

Hi,
I had my surgery on Feb 23rd of this year. Before my surgery, I had to have an ECG (I think that is how it's spelled), a pulmonary test (to test my breathing), various bloodworks (I went twice) and since I had sleep apnea I didn't need to be tested, but some people have had to get a test for that.
My diet is fairly normal now, but much much much smaller quantities. I don't snack since I don't feel hungry anymore.
Surgery fixes your stomach so you have a tool to help you lose weight, but it won't fix any issues you have with food in your head... like if you're an emotional eater.
You will have to be on a diet 2 weeks prior to surgery, either Medifat or diabetic boost and water.
On boost, you consume 560 calories/day for two weeks. It's absolutely necessary in order to prepare your liver for surgery.
I would do it all again tomorrow if I had to. I honestly believe it has added years to my life and that I'm having a second chance.
The more information you have before you meed the surgeon, the better prepared you will be do truly discuss with him in order to make the best decision for you.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate....there are a lot of us on the loser's bench now and we're more than happy to help ease your mind a bit. :)
