1st appt booked with Dr. B - now a million questions!!
There was just the booklet with my appt stapled to the front and a map in my package. When his assistant was making the first consult appt with me I mentioned that I was interested in the VSG and asked of he was doing that surgery and she said yes, (they weren't when my initial referral was sent in 2004). She said although he does it, the pamphlet hasn't been updated with it yet, but there would be info in it that is universal to all the surgery's.
Hi there - allow me to chime in? I had RNY with Dr. B. in April 2008. I'm a VERY satisfied customer. Someone mentioned the 4 patients he had lost with RNY. I know for certain that 3 of them were prior to 2008. The 4th - I have never heard about. I am the farthest thing from mal-nourished that you would ever want to see. BUT - I am vigilant with my vitamins and supplements and follow all the rules. The VSG was not an option for me back then - Dr. B. was just doing the band and the RNY. So I didn't have to make the choice between RNY and VSG. It would have been tough. I guess all I can advise people making the choice between the two is to educate yourself as much as possible and - of course - Dr. B. will do the surgery that he feels is best suited for you.

Hi,
I wanted to give you a bit of my personal history (well, mine and my mother).
My mother had a lap-band in July of 2010. To date, she has lost approximately 50lbs. In the beginning, she threw up a lot. She still does if she eats to quickly or doesn't chew enough. She went for fills and unfills, and fills and unfills.
Because of her age, the lap-band was the only option available to her.
Now, she doesn't regret this surgery at all. She now walks on her own instead of with a cane and that in itself is fabulous.
I just turned 40 yesterday. I went for the sleeve on February 23rd of this year. To date, I have lost 55.5lbs. I am no longer hungry (something that my mother still struggles with at times.) and can only eat small portions. I was at work 13 days after my surgery. Everything went as smoothly as I could have hoped and I am so thankful for this second chance. I'm now going to water aerobics and can move around much easier. I don't have to worry about taking any medications because of a pouch and for me this surgery was going to allow me to have the most normal life possible without all the follow-ups. My blood pressure, which was borderline high, is absolutely perfect now. My sugar was high, and it also is normal now.
I am eating to live, not living to eat..... :)
One thing you also need to remember, the surgery is a tool. It fixes your stomach to give you a better chance at success with weight loss....but it doesn't fix your head. If you have issues with food like an addiction, there is a way to cheat around your surgery. I went to see a psychotherapist for 2 years to get ready for this. And it was absolutely worth it. My mom still struggles with her food addiction and I only wish she had come with me to the therapist.
Anyways, good luck to you guys with your upcoming consultations...the best thing you can do is research, write questions down and get ready for the ride of your life!!!
