Signed off for Surgery
I just can't wait...so close but yet so far away.....I have been on one list or another since 2003...so to be this close but still not have a surgery date is driving me crazy.....
Anyway...thanks for listening and just letting me maon and graon a bit....On the good side, I am down 15lbs by doing the Atkins diet and really liking it...so I guess I just keep going....
I signed consent Dec 2nd and was sleeved Feb 14th, this might give you a little timeframe on when to expect surgery from the time of signing consent.
You can call if you want, but as soon as they have a date for you they will let you know.
My referal was sent Sep 2007 so i know all about the waiting and your turn will come sooner than later now.
What kind of surgery are you having?
WTG on the -15lbs!
Good luck and keep up posted.
Yes the waiting is long but so worth it!! Your time will be here before you know it!
Yes they do get the schedules before, but I think they call you as soon as they have the dates, but it can't hurt if you call and inquire.
I did have the sleeve done Feb 14th and yes I think it was a very nice V-Day present!! I will never forget my surgery date that is for sure :o)
Right now I feel great, 6 weeks post-op, I have bad days here and there where the stomach is not 100%, but for most part, it has been pretty good so far.
For the 2 week diet you have to prepare mentally!!
I did my own diet prior to the pre-surgery diet. I was scared that I would starve, and be too hungry if I ate like I normally did and all of a sudden had to stop and do the 2 week diet.
What I did was follow the Slim Fast diet 2 weeks prior to the pre-op diet, and wanted to prepare myself with eating less and trying to survive on 1 shake, 1 bar and 1 meal a day and a couple healthy snacks like the slim fast snacks or fruit.
I think that helped me a lot, to have a little taste of what was coming. You can't freak out prior to surgery and think you have to eat EVERYTHING you see in fear that you will NEVER eat again!!
The sooner you start eating healthier before surgery, the easier it will be on you especially mentally.
I understood the reasons for the 2 week diet, I will not say it was easy, but we have to, to make sure the surgery goes as smoothly as possible and to shrink that liver.
I am a bit over 6 weeks post op right now and have no problems with any food that I tried so far, I just can't eat very much at a time, right now I eat between 700-900 calories a day.
I feel no hunger like I did before, there is no pains, no noises in my belly like it used to do when I was hungry, I just have the feeling of my tummy being empty and you just know when it's time to put food in there, but I am so grateful that I do not have any hunger pains at all for the moment.
Although my weight loss is not going as fast as I had hoped, I can still say honestly today that this surgery will save my life and I DO NOT regret it for 1 min!
I'm sure you weren't expecting to read a book, but when I start rambling on, sometimes I just can't stop! LOL
I totally agree with the diet before the 2 week diet...I have been on the Atkins plan since Feb 25 and have lost 15 lbs so far...but the best part is that I am never hungry and do not crave anything like chips or chocolate....plus no late night snacking...I really do enjoy this plan and love having my chicken and veggies or steak and veggies every day...great to prepare for the new life post-op....
Do you have alot that you think you want to lose?? In total, I would love to lose about 150lbs from my current weight...so keep your fingers crossed...I have already started some light exercises and plan to do alot of walking this summer....
Thanks for everything...
I have a long day.. usually up at 6am or a bit earlier and not into bed until about midnight most of the time. I found on the liquid diet I had to drink half of the shake at a time to stretch it through the entire day.
The best way to enjoy the taste for me was the colder the better. I almost always had it on ice.
My sleeve surgery was on Feb. 10 (very close to better_life) and I also don't regret a moment of it. It was a groggy couple of days after the surgery itself but I really bounced back in the end and I feel great. I've lost just over 50lbs since starting the liquid diet until now and it already makes a big difference in my day to day energy. I swap notes with Better_Life and I found that has been a HUGE help! If you see anyone on here posting about their surgery date and it's close to yours try to keep in contact with them. I'm sure you will both benefit.
Good Luck!
