constipation

can anyone tell me if they were having trouble with bowel movements,i understand that the solid intake is nil but am getting some very unpleasant abdominal pain that comes and dosent quite go away.i am on day 5 of fast and have had two difficult bowel movements.started stool softener today and hoping for relief.......is this normal?

Yes, I experienced the same thing.  It was worse after surgery but did improve about a week after.  You have to realize that your whole diet has changed and you are now on a high protein diet.  It is a huge change for your digestive tract.  It will improve.

I actually found I was more regular as I did my high protein fast...relief is coming and take the stool softener on a regular basis.  I have long term constipation issues that are barely managed by stool softeners. 

I think we all suffered through the same thing. Take the stool softener, & drink as much as you can. Remember  you are not eating, so there is nothing to stimulate the bowels, you were just under a general anesthetic & the bowels take a few to several days to wake up.  Anesthetic takes a long time to come out of your system.
