Hi all...I am a newbie here. I am overweight like a lot of you, about 100 lbs over...I had a tummytuck two and a half years ago and asked my ps to refer me to Dr Beausoleil to talk about some kind of gastric surgery. I am still looking into different ones. I don't want the full bypass because of the major surgery that is involved, but the vertical sleeve seems much less invasive. I am still waiting to see dr b, but I was told that there is about a five year wait. How long did most of you have to wait just for the initial appt? I am hoping by the time I get to see him that medicare will still be paying for the surgeries. What is some of your advice on this situation? I would like to say right up front thanks for helping!
Hi,
I opted for the vertical sleeve and also need to lose over 100lbs. I am having my surgery on Nov 24th. My family Dr. wrote my referral several years ago when I was debating taking medication like Alli. She told me that there was only 1 surgeon in NB and to expect a crazy long wait. To be honest she said that she wrote other referrals and none of her patients ever heard back. She warned me to not have any expectation.
I am glad she told me that because she did not build me up false hope. Because I never banked on the referral I embarked on my own weight loss program. I can't say that was easy but I worked really hard and did manage to lose weight on my own. Problem was I plateaued for a long time and then started the weight creep again despite being active and eating well. The letter from Dr. Savoie's office informing me of my first consult could not have come at a better time because at that point I was very low.
While I am looking forward to this next phase on my road to health and a healthy weight I know that I must continue my healthy active lifestyle.
I am confident that it is worth the wait. You should be as hopeful

Hi,
My referal was sent to Dr B. in September 2007.
I first got to meet Dr B. August 25th, 2011, so almost 4 years. I have decided to go with the Sleve and will prob only have surgery March or April 2012.
I have no idea what kind of a waiting list it is now, but now i believe there is supose to be 2 Drs in Bathurst, or there will be 2 Drs. You can have your referal sent to Moncton and Bathurst, might get a chance to get in sooner then just 1 place, not sure.
Good Luck!
