Pain when I eat - anyone else have it to?
After a few failed attempts and some negative press for my posts I find myself turning back to the boards looking to make my lap band work.
It has been three weeks since my fill and I am really having a hard time eating. Nothing solid will go down and I find myself eating lots of semi-liquid foods because of the intense pain I feel in my chest when I eat. Does anyone else have this pain? Could it be gas? I try to eat really slow and chew like crazy, but when I swallow it HURTS.

Hey Chrissy - I don't have a band - so really am just talking my thoughts - but I don't think you should be having intense pain when you eat. That's not the way it is supposed to be. Maybe some of the bandsters can chime in and give you more input. In the meantime - I would suggest you call Dr. B's office. Good luck!
I have had to have my lap band emptied twice because of the pain and vomitting (I couldn't even drink water it was so bad).
I am beginning to think that this is the way it will always be with me because I drank pop for years. I was an addict and went through 2-3 2L bottles a day of diet coke. Perhaps this is the price I will have to pay.

From everything I read with banders, finding the exact sweet spot with your fills is a hit-or-miss process.
Some people find it right away, others have to be tweaked. Maybe the last fill is just a little too tight, and you can have some removed?
I know.. after a fill you're on liquids and fluids for awhile, and some discomfort is normal just after a fill for a few days to a week.
I actually got the VSG, but my take home care information was for banders too.
It said:
Eat according to your tolerance. Remember that the maximum amount of food per sitting should not exceed 1 cup of compressed volume.
After each adjustment:
Follow the guidelines below before going back to a normal diet.
Day 1 and 2 after the adjustment: Mixed liquid diet.
Day 3 and 4: pureed diet.
Return to a regular diet according to your tolerance.
After each adjustment:
Chew food thoroughly and very slowly in a relaxed atmosphere. (Meals: 20 to 30 min, Snacks 10 to 15 min).
Eat snacks only if you are hungry. Stop eating or drinking when you are full.
Avoid liquids when eating solid foods. Drink fluids 30 to 60 minutes before or after your meal.
Do not drink more than 2 oz of liquid in a 10 to 15 min period.
If you vomit, maintain a mixed liquid diet for 1 to 2 days until you feel better.
So, it's possible that you have too much restriction with your last fill, or that you just tkat a little longer to recover from fills? It's like taking a step backwards, if you move forward faster than your band allows.
I'm sure you know all this already, but aside from getting unfilled, or trying liquids until you heal a bit from the fill.. that's all I really know to help :)
Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Chrissy,
I have a band and everytime last time being in July if I get 1 cc in my band I end up go back to Moncton to get .5 taken out. Dr. B. says from now on is all he will put in at a time. And like yourself I get intense chest pain. It sounds like you need to have some taken out.
When I had my fill in July it was on a Wednesday, by that Friday I knew I needed an unfill! I could hardly even get fluids down and I was up all nite one nite from the pain. I called that Monday and I was in Monday afternoon getting .5cc taken out. What a relief.
My advice to you is to call the clinic ASAP.

I would like to thank everyone for the advise. I have been trying to relax and follow the wonderful rules that were shared with me here.
I am trying to work thru the adjustment as I haven't been able to get in to see Dr. B. Phoned office for three weeks but I think he was on vacation.
It seems to be getting easier as I am now avoiding bread, hamburger and most fried food. I guess I was still trying to eat all the **** I ate before and still make the band work. Learning lessons the hard way!
