Long Time no Post...LOL

Hello all,

Its been about two years since I posted anything here, I have been pretty discouraged since I made it all the way to signing the consent forms back in Sept 2009, only to have DND start making additional demands for qualification for them to fund my WLS with Dr B.

Its good to see everyone doing relatively well, not sure how many remember me...lol...I didn't post alot...

So, I finally got the approval, Dr. B's office called me last week, the kicker??  After two years of fighting for it, I had given up hope, even after starting meds for high blood pressure, and being told I will be diabetic in a few years (not yet thank goodness, but I'm 'glucose intolerant')...and decided I was joining my husband, who was posted half-way across the country two years ago.  My house is sold, and the packers come 20 Jun, and I will be in Winnipeg, MB, by end June...

Sigh...I'm begining to think higher powers do not intend for me to have this surgery, mayhap they are trying to tell me something????  LOL

Maybe you can stay with friends and family, depending on when you can be seen by Dr. B - and how quickly your surgery will be scheduled.
If you're still struggling with your weight and you are at risk for other health issues, that could be an option for you.
Seems like since you got a call from Dr. B's office last week -- they're moving on it.  Maybe since you were approved already, you'd go to the top of the list and wouldn't be so long behind following your husband to your new home.
I know you're health coverage can stay active for a year after re-locating -- so that wouldn't be an option.  If it's the DND involved, and your reasons for staying behind are medical -- maybe they'll accommodate you and help with the cost of you relocating at a later date.
Either way, you have to do what you feel is right for you.    Good luck with whatever you choose.

Laura, things do seem "messed up" for all of us at one time or another. Everything happens for a reason so hang in there.

Indeed, things tend to get messed up...and I would have family to stay with if I choose to do this through Dr B's office.  However, pending on what I hear from Base MO here, if the approval will follow me, I may just get on the wait list for Manitoba.  Its about a year long, that would give me time to get settled into my new job, rather than just get there, and have to leave again.  However, if the approval won't follow me, I need to find out if they will honour it, as my contract with them ends 30 Jun, and I won't be getting the next one until about Mid July, mayhap end July, depending on my environment transfer process.  It means two weeks to a month or so that I'm not covered by DND anymore, until the next contract anyways.  Crazy fun!  LOL.  I just hope my health issues don't get any worse in the meantime.

Hanging in, for dear life..!!

Hi Laura - I wondered where you went! I hope this works out for you where ever you end up having surgery. Maybe Manitoba would be a more sensible option as far as pre-op and follow up appts go - just thinking of the travel and cost involved if you have moved out west and have your surgery with Dr. B.  A wait time of a year in Manitoba is really not too bad. I know you have had some bumps along the road - but don't give up! Take care!

Hello Mary C.!!  I am beginning to think that as well...in the grand scheme of things, I still haven't found out yet if my funding approval would follow me.  I would like to think it does, considering its Ottawa that authorizes it, and the nature of my job...in an ideal world.  I finally got a phone number to call to check, but couldn't reach them today, and won't be in my office tomorrow.  How is your son doing??   My 13km BFT is in the morning, weapons draw at 7 am, done and on my way home by 11 to get cleaned up for the farewell bbq.  Gonna be a tough march this time,  will spend the weekend with crippled feet,  but stubborn enough to get'er done!  Hate doing this in June, Oct is much better, cooler and less bloodthristy insects...lol...

Cheers!

OMG - the BFT - Robert has his share of blisters from those. He Graduated from MUN last month with his Bsc(Hons) in Psychology. Is accepted to start his Masters in Social Psychology in the fall at MUN. He got out of the reserves in May also - turned in kit etc. Now on supplementary reserve list. He made Corporal (sp?) - last summer he was in Gagetown twice - once for a machine gunners course - then a tasking as a driver/storesman for a DPT1? course. He has a teaching assistant position when he starts his masters in the fall - plus has funding for research - so there will be no time left for the reserves. It treated him well over the years with part time and summer employment - plus education re-reimbursements. This summer he is on the job hunt - a new thing for him - but it was his choice to get out when he did. Personally - I would have stayed in for the summer and had a good paying summer job - but he wanted to be closer to home this summer - and the girlfriend of two years - you know the drill LOL> He was a bit sad and felt a bit melancholy the day he turned in his kit. Normal I guess - but he had his mind made up for a long while. I don't envy you with the blood thirsty insects - I remember Robert telling me stories of when they were out sleeping in the trenches - I don't know how you do it. It's to be admired for sure. I don't see why the funding won't follow you - as you said it comes from Ottawa - so shouldn't make a difference. Good luck with your BFT tomorrow - and enjoy the BBQ - it may take a few cold ones to numb the pain from your feet. Take care and don't be a stranger! Cheers!
