TUMMY TUCK AND MEDICARE

I STARTED MY JOURNEY IN OCT 2005 WEIGHING IN AT 430 LBS. SEEN A DR KHAN IN BATHURST WHO SAID I WOULD BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR GASTRIC BYPASS . MET WITH MY HOME PHYSICIAN THAT GOT THE BALL ROLLING(THANKS DR.J)THEN WENT ON TO MEET DR BEAUSOLEIL IN SEPT 2006 THAT RECOMENDED THAT IF I COULD SHOW HIM THAT I MEANT IT WHEN I SAID I WANTED TO LOSE WEIGHT THAT HE WOULD GLADLY DO THE SURGERY. I PROCEEDED TO LOSE A TOTAL OF 67 LBS BY DATE OF SURGERY ( JULY 25 2007) WEIGHING IN AT 363 LBS. SINCE THEN, I LOST A TOTAL OF 168 LBS WEIGHING IN NOW AT 195 LBS.SO LONG STORY SHORT...I LOST 235 LBS SINCE OCT 2005. REACHED MY GOAL IN JULY 2009.  REPORT SENT TO DR SAVOIE IN BATHURST FOR TUMMY TUCK(FREE OF CHARGE I WAS LEAD TO UNDERSTAND)
SEEN DR SAVOIE IN JAN 2011---1 1/2 YRS AFTER I REACHED MY GOAL.NOW,,BECAUSE OF NEW LAWS AND THAT I MAINTAINED MY WEIGHT LOSS AND WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS PLASTIC SURGERY, ALL OF A SUDDEN , IT NOW COST 4500.00.NEEDLESS TO SAY MY SELF ESTEEM IS VERY LOW AND LOOKING OF COURSE LIKE A DEFLATED BALLOON DOES NOT APPEAL TO ME. STARTED GOING OFF MY EXERCISE PROGRAM AND GAINED 9 LBS SINCE JAN.. I KNOW THIS MIGHT NOT SEEM LIKE A GREAT DEAL TO MOST OF YOU BUT I LOOKED BETTER FLUFFY THAT STRETCHY. GOTTA WRAP MY HEAD AROUND THE FACT THAT I AM BETTER HEALTHWISE BUT MY MENTAL HEALTH IS SUFFERING. WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.. GOING TO SEE DR B. TOMOROW APR 14 .HOPE TO SEE SOME OF YOU GUYS THERE....

 Sorry to hear about the plastics however congratulations on your weightloss. I need to lose about that much and it is inspirational when I hear that people have done it. 

just remember ...this surgery is a tool..not having your cake and eating it too....follow ALL of the advice of doctors..dietician..obesity help and this can be your answer.Went to see dr B on april 14 2011 and this is almost 4 yrs of follow up visits----never missed one--- at almost every 4 mts or so...and he told me that I was lucky to have had a surgery from him .....reason is:this was my 2nd attempt at this      ( first attempt april 1985 ) stomach stappling---started at 380 lbs lost 197 lbs lowest weight 183 lbs....story short --did not listen--gained it all back and an extra 50 lbs more ---top weight 430 lbs.....so dr B calls this surgery a RE-DO.  now , no re-do's are allowed because of poor sucess rate.....I am only 1 of 2---yesb you read right-- that this  surgery has helped because I chose to listen and exercise and YES I do cheat.....I mean who can't.? but, I have in the back of my mind, the knowledge and the drive to exercise even more to pay for my actions.! Good on you but getting the re-do & learning from experience.Most people dont learn, me included.

So is it official that the tummy tick is no longer covered by medicare under any conditions?

Iam on the list in moncton and they said it was cover,I would look back into it,There is only one Dr in moncton that it is cover with and I have a friend that just had it done in Fredericton and it was cover,So I think you shold call around as I had got a call and they said how much it was then I called around to go on a new list good luck.I jsut called again and Iam on the list and it lookes like sep as it is a year list and it is cover with janet in moncton.

I think the big question is whether or not it will still be covered after the cuts are announced in June.

NB Medicare will pnly pay for the plastic surgery below the waist, but many surgeons wonèt do half the job. Now some surgeons have either convinced Medicare to pay the whole shot or they do the whole thing for what Medicare will pay.  Come June,  nothing may be covered for any of us.
