Back Home

I was unable to swallow anything after surgery. When it was time to go home, the nurse called Dr B & I was admitted. I had to be kept on IV.  Yesterday I was able to swallow tiny sips, but no more. I was not urinating either.  I went without going for at least 24 hours. That was weird.  I ballooned up 10 pounds! I was so swollen that my body was & is  wrinkle free.  LOL
Today I was able to swallow slowly. . Dr B wanted to keep me another night but the logistics of getting me home would have been impossible. His only concern was that I be able to take my medications. I had not taken any of the 22 pills I normally take every day for 3 days. He explained that my esophagus was not swollen, but that it was "stunned" from the surgery. When I swallowed the muscles were not pushing the water down, but the only thing at work was gravity.  He said that there was room for all but my largest pills to go down. He also explained that I needed to take a sip of water before taking the pill. Then I needed a mouth full of water to take them. BUT I have to swallow the water in small amounts, to stimulate the esophagus.
On the other hand. this surgery was much much less painful that the first one.
Well it's nap time. I will post more later.
