Missed a call from the clinic
I could have had surgery today but I missed the call yesterday. I am not really upset, because my sugars are up & they are stubborn about going down. I can't figure out why my reading go down but are back up to 15-17 the next day. I walked 5 k yesterday & my reading at supper was 5.2. This morning it was 10.7, Just before lunch it was 15. I have given up sugar for lent, so though I had an apple for snack. An apple does not explain the 15. I have to get the numbers down or I won't heal well. Do amy of you nurses have any ideas?

Do you take Lanutus? It a 24 hour insulin. My sugars always went up around 3am, regardless of how well I ate, since taking the lantus my morning sugars are normal and it is much easier to manage the day sugar levels. In fact I only take lantus now, unless I knowingly eat something that will raise my sugars,( sometimes I just have to have that bag of chips) then I will take some novorapid. The stress of waiting for your sugars may also be raising your anxiety levels thus affecting your sugars.
I have been on Lantus for years. Until really recently it did the job with out anything else, but recently it is not doing the job. I have almost doubled the amount I'm talking & I have to take fast acting 1 or 2 times a day. I am only allowing myself a sugar treat once a week & I hike in the woods on rough terrain for 2 to 5 klm 3 to 5 times a week. The exercise gets the numbers down for a very short time only then I'm back into the double digits. I have a high stress job, but that is not new. I haven't checked today because I ran out of strips, but I will in the morning. They have come down a bit, but not nearly enough.
Stress can increase your sugar level. Do you have an infection or are you sick? that as well can increase your sugar. what about your meal portions? Are you eating enough protein? If your meal portions are a bit to much, you can try to reduce it and reduce some of the carbs you are eating. Try reducing your meals and take good snaks in between your meals. Try to relax and drink some water. Good luck my dear and hope things go back to normal.
I have never had stress have this effect on me for weeks at a time. It is so different from my usually paterns of highs & lows. The strange part is that I bring it down with exercise, but it shoots up as soon as I eat. It is almost as if the insullin is not working. I am not sick that I am aware of. I have protein at every meal.
Thanks Sunny!
