Newbie
Hello to all, i signed up today.
i have been on the "waitlist" since 2006 and off for a bit and back on. i spoke with the sweetheart of a secretary in bathurst who told me i am now scheduled for fall of this year. (have not received my documentation yet, she said a letter will arrive in the future)
Great right? after all this time
however, after reading alot of info on this site, i am now scared beyond all belief. what am i getting myself into.
i am hoping to go with the gastric bypass (rny).
i know it depends on the person really but does anyone have anything they can offer in the way of information?
no really, i am trying to now decide if this is worth it, if all i am going to have are complications.
i am definetly overwhelmed with all the information this site offers.
wish i had seen it sooner.

Hi!
Yes - Dr. S's secretary is a sweetheart! She is just as friendly in person and very patient.
Just as an FYI - Dr. S in Bathurst to my knowledge, does not do RNY. He does the lapband and the sleeve.
It is overwhelming I know, but despite my love/hate relationship with my band, I don't regret it. I am smaller than I ever thought possible and I'm able to lead a beautiful and positive life. I couldn't say those things before my surgery.
Best of luck to you and welcome!

Welcome to this wonderful board sunnie41. Dr. B. did my RNY 2 years ago. If you want to know how I feel about my RNY please read my 2 years anniversary update. I would do this again 10 more times if it were required. I did have some complications at first. The first 6 months were a trying time and I did have some "buyers regrets" but once that time passed I am completely happy and satisfied. I don't know where you read negitive comments about the RNY but I don't think it was on this board. Deb from NS, Mary C from NL, and me from NB are frequently on this site to hopefully offer insight on our RNY.
As Kitty mon says the most you do read about any surgery is from people who have problems and it makes it seem like all there are a lot of problems. People who have problems are disproportionately represented to those who have very few problems. You just hear more from folks who are having troubles.Keep in mind most of the people who have wls are perfectly happy and leave these sites and go on to live their lives wthout much ado. The ones who are having problems come here to vent and to see if anyone else has had the same problems and if someone can offer an opionion and maybe even a soultion to what problems they are having.
Good luck with whichever wls you decide and come back here as often as you like to ask anything or vent or whatever. We have all been there. :)

thank you for the comments and encouraging words.
it is true that sometimes i dont feel like i am "living" the way that i really want. sometimes it feels like i am going through the motions numb. eat, work, sleep and do it again because i cant physically do anything else.
i think in the end when this is completed, it will seem like a whole new world offering more than just work. i will feel more energetic, more willing to be seen in public and happier overall.
i guess i was just overwhelmed with all the information this site offers. i am glad i found it for sure.

Welcome to the board Sunnie! If it's any help - feel free to read my blog on my profile - it's public - and if you have any questions - fire away. It's all there - the good, bad and ugly - but mostly good. I haven't been very good at blog entries lately - life just kind of flies by. Congratulations on your decision to have WLS!
Hi Sunnie I haven 't been on here in a while, I took a computer break for February!! So just wanted to let you know about my surgery choice. It took me a while to decide but I finally had peace with the Gastric Sleeve. Dr. B did mine in Moncton but Dr. Savoie also does the sleeve. It has been an amazing low-maintenance journey so far for me(surgery Oct 29/10) I am doing wonderful and still only eat about as much food as my toddler. I have no food sensitivities and get full very quickly. I was a big eater and this has definitely fixed that problem. I have found my tastes have changed somewhat and I don't seem to crave sweets as much as before surgery. I think my body knows I need protein and I do gravitate towards that mostly. I allow myself regular foods as well but because my amount is so greatly limited, it is not a foodfest like before. I am down 87lbs since Oct(including my 2 week pre-op liquid diet) I would do it again in a heartbeat and I would choose the sleeve over again as well. Just wanted to let you know some about my results there. I also have a public profile and have blogged fairly often, you are welcome to check it out. Blessings Trish
