Wow,  I've been waiting so long for this surgery... now that's coming up I'm terrified and excited for the possibilities.

Looking for any tips, advice... my God anything

I'm on an insulin pump,,, any diabetics out there?
Are the shakes really that bad?  Can you have anything else those 2 weeks like coffee, water, milk?
I hear about food getting stuck...is that common?  Are their tips to "unstick"?
Any food/beverage suggestions for after the surgery?

I really want to loose my weight, but I don't want to be vomitting, in pain, or starving cause I can't get anything down... I could be worrying... I'm a baby... I just want to be healthy, active, and be able to have a baby.

Has anyone had a baby after lapband?

I know so many questions....

If I were to do it again (&  I might have to because my band may have to be re-positioned) i would go with Slim Fast.It is cheaper & tastes better. Dr B  allows it too.
I am a diabetic,. Insulin dependent, but not on the pump. I have reduced medication & Insulin dramatically but at 2 years out,  am far from goal. My experience has not been good, but it isn't typical either.
If you get stuck, don't drink anything or even swallow your spit -it is amazing just how much your mouth can produce. That may sound weird, but that is what happens. All you can do when you get stuck is wait it out. You can  vomit but that is not recommended. It is very bad for the band.
After surgery, you will learn what you can & can't eat. Bread is a no-no for most everyone. At first you will be able to eat almost everything and you will think you are one of the lucky ones. However, as your band starts to really work, that is you get real restriction, you will find that there are foods that just do not go down. You will also find that there are foods you can't eat without getting stuck and you will find that you have to start really following the rules.

Well Congrats on your up coming surgery.

Pregancy during lapband is supposed to be safe. I'll let you know because I am planning to be pregnant sooner than later. I actually have an appointment with my family doctor and surgeon to discuss this in february.

The band is not so bad, but it's not easy. One of the main reasons I am going to the doctor is to get my blood levels checks for vitamins and minerals. I want to make sure I have everything I need to conceive and carry a healthy baby. I wouldn't be surprised I am low iron right now because I have alot of difficulty eating meats.

The 2nd reason is to discuss how tight my band should be while I am pregnant to ensure my baby is getting adequate nurtrition.

I'll keep you posted!

Congrats on your surgery!

Thanks guys,  I appreciate all the support and info.   I'm still very excited and terrified... and of course... of the winter driving as well.

Do you know if you have to fast for the blood work?

Have already given you all my answers in person. I'm really happy for you Lada and I believe strongly in this surgery and it can change your life. I was 270 lbs when I had my surgery and one year later I was down 120 lbs. Sure, there are things I can't eat anymore (e.g. bread is definitely out for me) but you know - it's only food and there are still many other things I can eat. Life now is 100 times better as an engaged woman who teaches fitness classes :)

Your dreams can come true and I can't wait to see that unfold :)

Remember to try posting / reading the main lapband board as well -- you'll get a lot more feedback there. The feedback here is definitely valuable but there aren't a lot of us banded here so it's always good to hear from many sources.

I wish you NOTHING BUT SUCCESS!!!!
