How to get started.
Congratulations to all of you whom have had the surgery. I am trying to get my doctor to make my referral. i was told five years ago when i weighed in at 289lbs that i was a good candidate but the wait time was up to five years. I was under the impression that 5 years ago he put me on the list. I am now 356Lbs and have sleep apnea and joint problems which are interferring with my work. I heard that there is a doctor in Bathurst, Dr Marc Savoie whose wait time is less than 2 years. Can anyone help me with information on getting started. Anything I can give my doctor to light a fire under him?
HI!
I know this will be somewhat discouraging, but I think a 2 year wait time for Dr. Savoie is conservative. The last time I was at the clinic I was told that people are now waiting 3-4 years. However, I would ask your dr. to send a referral in to Dr. Savoie, and at least get the ball rolling. In the meantime, perhaps call Savoie's office (when you call the main hospital number ask to be forwarded to the Diabetic Clinic). They are VERY kind there, and quite helpful.
Obviously, if you can pay for the surgery yourself you can get it done lickity split, but not many of us are able to do that. Keep on your dr. to send in a referral!
