I woke up this morning with heartburn and stomach pain like never before. I took 2 gavisgone tablets with no relief so I took peptobismol still with no refief, Feels like my gut is on fire. Yesterday I drank a 6oz glass of red wine but that's all I had that I have not had since Thankgiving. Everything else I eat daily. Meat, sweet potato turnip carrot cabbage so I can't understand the pain now. It really has not gotten any better at all. We R N Yers don't really have much gastric juice to begin with so our heartburn is seldom caused by bile in the stomach. I am a hurting unit today. Any suggestions.

I guess I should clairify. It is not heartburn because it is not up into my esophagus but it is directly in my pouch area. Still there since boxing day. Called the Dumont crew but they are not bac****il Jan 3rd.

Though I wouldn't normally say this- if the pain is that bad you should go to the nearest ER. It may have nothing to do with your pouch.

If it is still hurting on Friday I will go to the ER. I hate to show up at the ER complaining about a belly ache. They have no idea about gastric bypass over there . The first time I went to the er over there they decided I needed to drink 24 ounces of contrast medium for a ct scan. That was 72 hours after bypass surgery and I had a hell of a time convincing them that it was impossible for me to even drink 6 ounces let alone 24 ounces. I can just imagine the head patting I will get if I show up over there. My luck to need to talk to the Dumont crew and they are all gone until Jan 4. Hopefully this will pass with no pouch damage.

Maggie - just seeing this now - as |I have been work, work, working throughout  most of the holiday season. If you are still unwell - and not confident with the treatment you got in St John - just wondering if it is worth the trip for you to go down to the ER in Georges Dumont? I actually saw a surgeon there when I was really sick in '09 who was aware of WLS and it's potential problems. He was in with Dr. B. when they did my surgery and did look after me for a few days post op until Dr. B. was "officially" back from his holidays. Just a thought! But - I did get the feeling at George Dumont that they are aware of Dr. B's patients and they may be a bit more helpful to you there. Good luck!

Last night I could stand it no longer so I presented myself at the SJRH emerg. Sat in the waiting room 4 hours and could sit there no longer so I came home. I wasn't being snarky, I just physically could not sit there any longer This morning I went to St Joe's and saw a Dr. She did blood work and x-rays and said I have a huge gall stone (cholithisis) and sent a referral to a surgeon for me to see. She said if the pain becomes unbeara ble to go to SJRH and see a surgeon who is on call. She perscribed buscopan and sent me home.  Hopefully it will settle down now for awhile. Pain still there but not as bad now.

Crap - sorry to hear about the gallstone - but at least that's something that can be fixed! I hear you about sitting in ER's - did it for 6hrs - the first time with  my obstruction - then 2 hrs the second time - I guess the heart rate in the 130's got someone's attention that time. But - if you are in pain and the buscopan doesn't help - go back - and make noise until someone listens to you. I know as an ER nurse - we do have people wait for extended periods - but SEVERE pain is a priority and definitely should get you triaged at a more urgent level. Good luck!

I am having similar pain, and I am freaked out as there is no one at the Dumont until Janurary 3rd...it has gotten so bad that I am getting afraid!  Hope you are doing better!

I have had chronic back pain since 1999 so now my body does not react to pain. My heartrate does not increase nor does my breathing increase. All of the physical markers for pain I no longer display due to chronic back pain. Sucks because I can be in severe pain but my vitals are pretty much normal. I had a huge bleed after my bypass surgery and it was not till I lost almost 2 liters (7 or 8 pints) of blood before my vitals changed. I complained of severe pain all night but the monitors  showed near normal vitals so no one noticed or paid much attention.
