Day two of shakes pretty tough!
I found out I was having surgery yesterday and it was going to be in two weeks exactly so as you see there was no time to ease into the shakes, I just had to start with a bang, cold turkey. I know lots of you have been through this but wow, am I ever hungry. I had the worst headache yesterday and at that time I didn't know if I was allowed any meds or not so I suffered through the day. I did talk to Rinette though and she said meds were fine until tuesday preops and then they would give me further directions for surgery. I haven't found out details yet just that it is Oct 28th in the afternoon. So here we go and man am I hungry, haha did I already say that once! Thanks for caring guys. Trish
You can do it Trish. Take something for your headache - and keep your eyes on the prize. I didn't have to do the shakes way back then - so have no idea what you are going through. I imagine it's really rough. I remember the hunger feeling I used to get pre-op. It's not fun. Thankfully - to this day - as a post-op - I still never feel hungry. Lise told me it would come back - but so far it hasn't. For me that is one of the real miracles of the RNY. Take care girl -we are rooting for ya!
Thanks for the encouragement Mary. That seems to be a common thing with the RNY and some people. My sister had the same surgery and she said she never gets hungry either and it is the best thing about her surgery. She has to watch out for head hunger and munching though, so she is keeping an eye on that. Thanks keep rooting!! Trish
i hear you and know your pain my surgery is oct 19 and i`ve been on the liquid since the8 th so i know i was told no meds as i did my pre op on the 8th my biggest beef besides beening hungry is that i feel like i can`t get out of my own way, tired, slow; and my memory is out of order i`m sure this will pass soon or i`ll forget about it jacqueline good luck
Wow Jacqueline you don't have far to go at all, so close. You are doing so great. The lack of energy is normal I believe, it is not many calories to function on since we are so used to so many. Do you know how much weight you have lost these two weeks? It is a great jumpstart for us anyway. My neighbor that had the vsg two weeks ago is down over 25lbs including her shakes before surgery and she is smaller than me, so good results. I am not asking to compare because everyone is so different but just curious as to how you are doing. Anyway good luck, not far to go now... Talk soon Trish
I'm with you sister....2nd day on shakes for me too and tonight I had my first meltdown and cried. I kept smelling my husbands toasted bologna and mustard sandwich and just tried to remember how it felt not to be hungry!! Yes, sad, I know. :o)
It's been a long 5 year wait though and I have surgery on Oct. 29th. Good luck and congratulations!!

If you don't mind me asking which surgery are you having on the 29th? I totally understand the whole bologne sandwhich thing, life still goes on and as a mom and wife I have still had to prepare lots of good meals(and smell them!) so it has been a bit of toture to say the least. It makes me emotional to take away my food, as I have used it to deal with emotions in the past. Well it is time for a new stage and so I will have to exercise or something else in the future! Good luck on your new beginning, Trish
I have been on the shakes for over a week now - I have to be on them for three weeks before my surgery on the 27th. The first days were the hardest. Now I don't feel hungry at any point but do enjoy the shakes - especially since I got my Magic Bullet which makes them turn out just like milkshakes. I don't even add Splenda anymore - I like them as is - but very cold. I put them in the freezer after mixing for a while, then it's almost like an icecream shake. I also eat the low glycemic veggies once a day - they are good in a stir fry. I'm feeling lighter and smaller already and really looking forward to my surgery.
I hope everyone has an easy time on surgery day!
Callie.

Thank you ladies for replying. I am on day 4 now and it is slightly better. I am super excited for surgery and wouldn't do anything to sabotage it. Good luck everyone who is shakin and those who are waiting don't lose hope, it will come. You do all this waiting and think there is going to be lots to do once you get your date but really besides preparing for the care of 3 kids(ok that is a bit of work) it all kind of falls into place. I am not writing letters as some choose to do, I am believing for a great surgery and quick recovery(no disrespect to those who have written loved ones letters) I have lost over 7 lbs of waterweight and maybe some fat already. Actually 7 was off by day 2 and I haven't weighed myself since but I have a high BMI and so expected it to come off pretty quickly in the beginning. Thank you all so much for caring!! Trish
