revision quest....maybe

Does anyone know if Dr B has ever done a revision on a person over the age of 55?
My band has been loose for 2 months & I have not called about a fill. I keep putting it off. I am just not looking forward to another round of trips to Moncton for fills, only to end up not able to eat. That is the pattern I have repeated since August 2009. I know that the band can work really well because I have experienced it. However, the majority of my experience is with being over full followed by an unfill (& gaining what I just lost). What do you think girls?

I'm not sure what kind of revision you're asking about, but there are a lot of people on here who had the band, and revised to the sleeve and are doing great.
I don't think age will have much to do with qualifying for a revision, but your BMI might.
Search on here for those people who have had revisions from band to sleeve -- it's incredible!

Good luck in whatever you choose.
You look fantastic to me just as you are.. it's all in how you feel!

Take care.

Age has a lot to do with. Dr B will onbly do the band on people 55 & up. i just don't know if he sticks to that policy after significant weight loss. I was thinking about the sleeve.

Hey Kitty I would encourage you to never give up until you get what you want and deserve. You still have a bit of weight to goal so pursue whatever you need to to get there. You would find the sleeve refreshing after the healing because it maintains itself. After all your work to make your lapband work you would rock a sleeve. All you can do is call Dr. B's and talk to them, you have had sufficient set backs with the band to qualify I am sure.

C,

I think making an apt with Dr. B to discuss your options wouldn't hurt. I get you, and this is what I try to tell people now, the band is not what it seems to be. People get caught up in the reversible/adjustable/less invasive part of it but don't realize this isn't a magic wand and it's a HUGE struggle.

It is my own personal mission now that when a wannabe bandster comes here, I let them know my experience with the band so they are aware. Strangely enough, when I was researching the band, I saw/read only positive stuff. No one told me "You will throw up a lot" or "You will still struggle with gaining weight"

True, the band can work well and I'm a prime example of that. However, if people look at me as inspiration, they should look elsewhere. I only made it where I am because I kept myself too tight and I'm not ashamed to say it. I lost alot of weight but at what price?

Like you, I have never found the so called "Green" zone and after being banded a year plus, I seriously doubt it exists. Folks who keep a loose band regain and people who keep a tight band throw up. Finding a medium has been extremely hard, if not impossible.

When you're too loose, you can barely control yourself and you eat everything. When you're too tight, you can barely get enough calories in to survive.

I have yet to meet a bandster who found the happy medium, so don't feel alone.

All that to say, is that there is no harm in discussing your options and I wouldn't blame you to want to look elsewhere.

Char, I have been wanting to ask Dr B about that also but have been afraid. I'm sure he'll just tell me I haven't been following the rules but, really, if I could follow the rules and eat only a cup of food I wouldn't have been obese in the first place. I have never been able to keep a fill. I get it, I get stuck and reflux and I get an unfill. Too many trips to Moncton and I must say, although Moncton isn't really that far, it's far enough that I'm losing a days pay each time and it's frustrating having to go that far, especially when you have to wait 10 hours for an unfill in emerg. Talk to him. I'm going to at some point. I just had another fill a week and a half ago and I'm going to have to go back for another unfill. I just can't take more than 5.5 cc's but at 5.5 cc's I'm too loose and I still overeat. Anyway, let me know how you make out. And I'm still waiting for that coffee date since I didn't make it this summer with losing my mom. Starr

Hey Star,
Good to hear from you. Why don't we do coffee next week. Any day except Monday or Wednesday. I am taking an Italian class starting this week. I know that it is a little late for my trip, but I plan to go back to Italy.  This week I am wrapped up in doing a wedding cake for Saturday.

Re my band. When the band works, it is fantastic. I had a couple of months of really good restriction last year, so I know the sweet spot exists. Since last fall's unfill, I have either been too loose or too full.  I am just tired of the yo-yo. I didn't realize that I felt this way, until it was time to call for a fill. I have to call because I have gained a bunch of weight, some of my cloths are getting snug. I have been loose for over 2 months now, so I am hoping that I have really healed well this time and the fills will work again. I am just tired. I did try to call today, but I was so busy that I only got the time to try once. Tomorrow.....
Pick a day for coffee....the following weekend works for me too.
