I Need a Pick Me Up...

Just got off the phone with Dr. S office. My referral went in March 2009 and today I was told that the referrals for 2009 haven't even begun. January 2009 referrals won't be booked until July 2011 so that means I probably have another 2 years until my first consult.

Did everyone else get frustrated waiting?

The waiting is the hardest for sure, I am over 3 years now and done all the steps but the surgery date. So yes some days are tougher than others for sure. With an active family and an in shape hubby I do notice it and get discouraged sometimes. I guess we have to hope for the future and do the best we can while we wait. Try not to get to down you can never get these days back again(some we wouldn't want!) I totally know how you are feeling, meanwhile life goes on. Talk soon, Trish

Are you sure you understood correctly, I was on the list for 10 months now and my surgery is  booked for the last week of this month.

Yes I spoke at length with the office. I will not get my first consult for another 2 years.

have you considered asking dr.s to find out how long the wait list is elsewhere, my sister is waiting for the ds surgery and she has been on his list for a few years but in Montreal she will have her surgery within 6 months and dr.s. will do all of her follow-ups,just trying to give you options.

I cannot afford to go out of province...oh well. I will just keep on waiting.

YES!!YES!!  I get so frustrated and tired of waiting.  My referral was sent to Dr. S. on December 5th 2008.  My family doctor was supposed to send it in September 2008 but her secretary got ill and nothing got done until then.  Of course, the consults stopped at the end of November so I was sol.

With all the back and forth with the dates of the new surgery wing to open and the team training and then no DS and then VSG people had to wait etc etc...I never thought I'd get a call.

I always try to be patient because I can't imagine the amount of phone calls these ladies must get.  Well I started calling once a month.  Just a little chat and find out more info if I can.

Then it happened, about 3 months ago, she said that she had me in the booking book for April 12th for my initial consult!!!  Hopefully nothing happens until then to delay this.

But yes I understand the frustration completely.  Hopefully things will start going better once Dr. S. is allowed more wls per week.  As it stands now, he is only allowed one day for wls so it doesn't make for many surgeries per week.

Patience is a virtue that I now have...but I still don't like it!!!

Hope it goes quickly for you.  I'd say that it won't be 2 years.  Hopefully you'll be there before the end of next year.  Just think of those who only had their referrals sent last week.....(just to put the time in perspective).

I'm keeping my fingers/toes/eyes and anything else I can...crossed that maybe the approval for DS will happen...who knows...

I was thinking that I hadn't seen you posting for awhile. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I wish that they would allow more surgeries and even open up a clinic in Saint John but I know that won't be happening. I have a few other medical issues and further investigation can't happen until there is weight loss.

To bide the time, I have taken a course regarding issues around eating behaviours and will be starting a weight management clinic this week...every little bit helps.

I will be keeping an eye on your posts ... please keep posting or please send me a PM on how you are doing.
