Surgeries with Dr. S.

Hi there...I have been looking on this forum for information about Dr. Savoie...I am very early in the process and can expect to have my first consultation until sometime in December they are telling me. I have been on the waiting list about a year so far. I'm wondering if I can ask you a few questions about your experience with Dr. Savoie, mainly about what I can expect.
Once you do get that first phone call to come for a consultation, what happens then? Do they do a bunch of tests? Do they decide at that first consultation if you will have the surgery, what type of surgery, etc? About how long will it be from that first consultation until you actually have the surgery? I am a little unclear about the timeframe, procedure, etc from that point.
I am thinking of having the vertical sleeve procedure, although I will probably go with whatever Dr. Savoie thinks is best for me. Is this what you had, and if so how did it go?
Thank you, I would really appreciate your feedback.

Hi Colleen,
I'm still waiting for my initial consult. My referral was send back on December 5th, 2008. I have a scheduled consult on April 12, 2011.
They have told me that if your referral was sent in 2009 or after, you definitely won't be seen this year for your initial consult but as a lot of people get referred to both Dr. S and Dr. B's lists, some may drop and it may go faster.
That's all I know, but maybe someone who's farther along can give you more info.
Thanks,
Charline

See this is what I don't really understand...I was not put on the list until Sept of '09 but I have been told I will be called for a consult probably this December, which is only 14 months. I must be misunderstanding something because you have been waiting almost a year longer than me and your consult is not until april '11? Maybe I misunderstand what happens when they "call you"...does this mean that even when they call, they will be giving me an appointment that will be over a year away?
Hi,
I can't tell you very far into the process, but I had my 1st consult in August.
I met with the nurse for medical history, and the nutritionist to get weighed and talk about eating habits, etc. Then met with Dr. Savoie to talk about which surgery was best. All of this took place at the 1st consult.
I was then booked for a 2nd consult in October, which would be to tell him which surgery I have decided on, and I was told you sign paperwork. Then you're given the pre-op testing information.
On the 1st consult, I was told that my surgery should be done in about 3 to 4 months from the 2nd consult. So that puts a 1st consult in August being operated on by January the following year.
I hope that helps answer your questions!
