SO excited - have to share!!!!!!
Hi everyone - I am so excited - I have to share. My BFF's daughter - she's 23 - just had lap RNY with Dr. Joya in Mexico on Monday. She became interested in WLS when she saw the process I went through and how well I feel since WLS. She initiallly started to go throught the process in Alberta to see Dr. Nohr in Medicine Hat and have her surgery covered by provincial health care insurance. She works in Fort McMurray - but her and her hubby have a home in Calgary - so go back and forth. She was told the wait time would be 6-7 yrs. Being so young, and having the means to self-pay - she started to explore that option. Checked in Dr. Christou's clinic in Montreal - and a few others in Canada and US. But she instantly felt a great connection and good rapport with Dr. Joya's staff when she called down there. So - in less than 2 months - she's now a post op! She is doing wonderful - up walking the halls, has even been outside today. In the shower twice today. Nothing by mouth since surgery though - until her leak test tomorrow. Then she will be allowed to start to drink. There are 3 other patients from Alberta down there with her who had surgery either Monday or Tues. Imagine that! They will be a great suppory for each other when they come home. I believe Melissa will be discharged from hospital after the leak test tomorrow - then spends 3 nights in the hotel the hospital uses - then home. Her package included her return airfare from Calgary - all hospital, hotel, transfers between facilites - all costs included. Someone met her at the airport when she went down and she has found no language barriers at all and all the staff to be very kind, caring and proffessional. Just in case anyone is ever contemplating going this route - I think the cost of her package was around $12,000.00. She went on Dr. Joya's website and started contacting them from there.
Anyway - she did her homework - knows the good and the bad - saw what I went through last summer and knows anyone can have a complication anytime. But - so far so good. Please join me in wishing her a continued smooth and uneventful and speedy recovery! Thanks guys!

You are right - the price isn't too bad considering. Melissa had her leak test yesterday - all is A-ok - and her drain was removed. Discharged out to the hotel the hospital uses - the doctor visits the patients there every morning. She is on clear fluids only for the first week - a bit different from my post-op eating schedule - but alll doctors are different as we know. I was talking to her last night and she sounds pretty well back to herself. Of course she tires easily etc. All normal. And she gets to look out at the lovely pacific ocean for the next 3 days until she flies home - and get out and enjoy the weather/pool/beach etc a bit at a time. Not too bad a deal!
