HEY Gang

I havent been posting much lately but like most, I check it regularly.  Im down 82 lbs but man its slow, its my own fault for sure as I really am off track.  Did anybody else go through this so close after surgery...its been 3 months.  Maybe I need to get some counselling.  I hate exercising and hate going to the trainer.

Any advise appreciated

Ang

Angela, Angela, Angela - get yourself back on track girl! You have endured so much and waited so long to get your surgery - don't sabotage it all now. As for exercising - just walking is fine - if you don't like going to the trainer - don't - I HATE going to the gym - never liked it - so I walk - simple - no trainer - just me and some good music in my ears. Get back to basics and follow the plan you were given - and if you feel you need counselling - do go. You have the power and knowledge to do this. You must feel so much better already with 82lbs gone. That's awesome! Just think how much better you will feel as you continue to lose. Please don't give up Angela. Try to get back some of that determination you had as a pre-op. Good luck to you - and you CAN do it girl!

What do you mean, its coming off slow? 82 pounds shed in 3 months is awesome. You didnt put it all on in a year, so dont expect to take it off in that time either. I was done in Dec. and down 30 lbs, and quite happy with my progress. I was told if it comes off slowly , its more likely to stay off. You are doing great, so dont get discouraged with yourself, I have found I might lose 5 pounds in a month, and I am ok with that. As long as it continues to go down, there have been weeks, when I havent eaten healthy, love my ice-cream on hot days, and with camping sometimes have chips and other goodies, but hey, I am not going to deny myself all the time, I just promise myself to be good the next week and take off what my indulging caused me to gain. after all  life is for having joy and fun, right?  One of the tools I found is the site , www.5daypouchtest. It really helps when I get off track, I ordered the cook book and love it. Check it out, the site is great.

82 pounds!!! Holy snapping blue arseholes woman. That's freaking awesome. Stop worrying.  I take it you can't eat more than a cup or so at a sitting. Right? Now how are you sabatoging yourself?

You are still well into the early "honeymoon" phase yet. That lasts for 18 months or so. In the homeymoon phase you will always lose weight. it is after that time period that you will have to watch really closly what ypou eat. For now it is really not a huge worry. Now in those 18 months you will need to learn how to eat properly and hopefully find other ways to deal with stress than to eat.

However after saying all of this, your pouch is still only a tool. Not magic. You can eat past it if you try hard enough. I have heard of people who have gained back all of their weight 3 or 4 years out from surgery but at 3 months it is not a concern.

You never did tell us what you can and can't eat or how much at a sitting. If you can tolerate sweets or milk or carbs.  If you dump ot not.

I hit 180 last Aug and have not lost a pound since. This must be my floor. I go down to 178 and up to 182 but I always settle back down around 180. I am happy here. I never wanted to be a swinsuit model anyway. I aimed to be thin enough to be healthy and I am. You will be too. Just give it time. Hang in there Angela. Time flies.

Counselling may be a good idea though. You will need to find another way to handle stress other than food. You might find walking helps. I have a lame back and cannot walk more than a couple of minutes so for me that stress reliever is gone. SUCKS

You are doing great Angela. :)

Angela, I don't know about you but when I was in my first year out, I used to go to RNY and gastric bypass sites and holy moses they were saying they lost 100 pounds in 4 months or so. I thought I was doing something wrong because I was losing so much slower.

Then i looked at what they were consuming and quickly realized I was not doing anything wrong, they were, They were reporting eating only 5 or 6 hundred calories a day, No freaking wonder they were losing so fast.

Problem with that though is when the honeymoon phase is over, they will regain very quickly. Renee and both of my other nuts told me not to go below 1200 calories a day and I don't and am maintaining my weight, eating 5 or 600 calories a day will cause you to lose faster but you will not be able to keep it off and will screw up your metabolisim.

As far as exercise goes, you don't have to go to a gym or a trainer. Just walk 30 minutes a day. If you can't walk that far to that long- three 10 minute walks equals the same benefit.  Get yourself some bar bells and exercise in your chair while you watch TV. When you go to the Mall park farther away than you used to. As it gets easier, park further away. My best advise is for you to find some form of exercise you like and do that. If you hate it, you will not stick to it.  You could try dancing to your favorite music. Take up belly dancing (via a video). Extra flesh is an advantage for belly dancing- you don't have to work as hard to shimmy as those skinny ass girls do!
80 pounds sounds fantastic to me. I just hit 80 pounds this morning after 1 1/2 years. I know I have the band and had less to loose, but 80 pounds still sounds good to me.
