Surgery - AGAIN

Well it's official. I have gallstones and yep, they are alive and kicking. I had about 17 attacks since March and while waiting for my ultrasound in July, I had a bad attack where I turned yellow and was rushed to ER.

They almost operated on me the next morning but my liver blood work got better because the stone unlodged itself from my bile duct. I met with the surgeon, signed my consent papers and will be called over the next couple of weeks for surgery.

I'm not even a year out and already I am facing another surgery. ah well...it's the way life goes. I urge all of you to get our gallbladder checked after significant weight loss and I was told losing weight rapidly can trigger attack and cause stones. Don't wait until the attacks start to come because it is the most painful experience of my life.

How's everyone anyways? it's been awfully quiet.

My band and I are fine. I'm 18 pounds away from reaching my goal and it's truly unbelievable! The band has it's bad moments sometimes but truthfully, I would do it again.

The laprascopic gall bladder surgery is a walk in the park. You will be fine. Just remember that you may feel good after a couple of days but you still have had major surgery. so look after yourself.

Thanks Charline - I assume the surgery must be similar to lap band surgery right? same pain level? same recovery (minus the diet part)?

The gas pain is about the same, but they are in & out faster, so it is less painful over all. I know the bladder lift I had was a lot less painful overall. Waking up it was about the same but I recovered a lot faster.

Sorry to hear you have to have another surgery - but as someone who takes care of people in the ER all the time with gall bladder trouble - get it done and get it over with. Your recovery and how you feel should be somewhat similar as your band surgery as far as incision pain etc goes. Take it easy and I hope all goes well for you!
